Do you think there are any independent music programs on the radio (AM,FM and DAB) where you live. Programs playing different styles of music to suit all music tastes?.

In Britain, BBC radio programming tends to miss certain music styles Prog Rock and Electronic.
You do not tend to hear Pink Floyd, Genesis, Porcupine Tree, etc, (Rock tracks) and Tangerine Dream, JM Jarre, William Orbit, etc, (Elecronic tracks) on the BBC.

Independent radio stations tend to to owned by big companies and just use a play list. The exception being Planet Rock DAB radio which plays Rock and Progressive Rock and under threat of closure.

America was the home of local indendent radio stations and could broadcast new artists without corporate approval. This is how Elvis and other artists got their break. This is no longer the case big corporations tend ot own most of the stations.

Lack of independent local and national programming means a bland sterile radio experience.

Do you feel let down by the your national and local radio station programs or have you a oasis in a desert?.

It doesn't matter anymore. There are plenty of great stations on the internet. Depending on your tastes, there is something for everyone and new music you would like that you never even imagined. I like this one for example:

Thats why I excluded the internet.

It matters if you are on narrowband internet or you cannot access broadband where you are.

It matters if you don't like bland radio.

Well BBC 6 Music is pretty good, the Freak Zone has plenty of prog - even played three parts of Philip Glass' Music in Twelve Parts a couple of weeks back.

For more 'out there' sounds check out Resonance FM 104.4 (in London).

94.6 (in London) for pirate D'n'B station (not sure what it's called).

It's only a matter of time before low orbit satellites make high speed internet available for everyone. Nobody is going to care about FM and besides, you can download a lot of great music now. If your internet is slow, you can do it while you sleep. There are so many free and legal mp3 files.

AM radio is still around so the internet isn't going anywhere. There will be two or 3 internets.

Internet 2 is destined to be controlled subscriber-based restricted access anyways. Not sure I can support it. Currently Universities have access. (but look who's promoting it). :)

Take away the private sector, and you get Internet 2.
