Sounds really good to me. Was it multi-tracked?

First tune I don't remember the name of, but it was when B.Evans was jammin' w/ Miles during the Sketches Of Spain recordings.

No multi, just one of those really fast ideas that hit me before I went off to work.

I am demoing new EP sounds from DX7 libraries FM8, and other stuff I bought. But they just aren't big enough for my tastes.

Colossus just has that balls & bells sound of a real instrument.

Very unique.

I could only suggest one slight detail to make this complete. Add a 3 stage DSR envelope so one could use it as the release section.

Old EP's like hardware reverbs always have a little tail that carries over on the note off CC, It's probably not even noticable, but I have played and owned many of the old FAT BASTARDS, so I am used to very slight release tones.

The velocity section is really quite nice in the Scope SDK stuff. I can actually detect 4 different levels which is all that is needed IMO.

Too many sample developers use 8 or 16. To me that is just plain silly and a waste of memory and time. Most high quality controllers can only send 4 noticable points that people hear anyway.

It's nice to finally 'hear' it being put to good use

Funny thing is that the doors part was one of the tunes I had rolling around inside my head for a few weeks while I built the device. I even tried to source some decent midifiles (if there is such a thing ) but to no avail. Unfortunately, my piano skills have never been that great, so it's brilliant to hear it played in that context by a pro like yourself .

yes! Agree! It sounds very very nice!!! Congrats to everybody!

One other thing also.

In case you were wondering, the poly was 16, but the note stealing algo on many samplers is noticable to a trained ear, but this DSP EPno has absolutely no noticable giveaways as samplers do. You can't even tell there is a Poly limit when you're playing it.


Count on hearing this when I learn how to record and mix better this summer.


Sharc have you ever heard the old RMI EPno?

I've never heard an RMI in the flesh Jimmy, although I am familiar with a few recordings it was used on.

There are no accurate emulations of that one anywhere.

I have heard several thrown together VSTi and sample based ones done by people.

If you ever decide to do more of the EP based stuff, check out Howling Wolf, the old Blueman from the States.


Colossus is similar, but still quite unique.
