I usually use a Channel Strip w/ a gate to knock off reverb tails and it works really well as I can retain the effect w/o muddy'ing my mixes.

But I don't care for the way it clips delays.

I also tried BBII's Slapback and while it is an excellent effect I can't get the sound I want.

I tried different HP filters and they still bleed a little too much for my taste.

Any suggestions on a different approach?

I heard it done perfectly years ago on hardware but can't remember what type of effect was used. It was not an EQ, or a gate either.

You can hear it done on several old recordings like Pink Floyd and Yes.

The synth's effect was up front but would die off perfectly into the mix?

you wont get in trouble for posting a 3-6 sec example of what you are trying to achieve, but it would make it a hell of a lot easier to replicate it

oh, and if its just like loosing the reverb of a snare (which is how i interpet it) its just a mater of a modular ADSR, but then again its probably not what you want

I am playing w/ VDAT off and on tonight too. I might even be able to trab sfer some ancient S-VHS tapes mastered on an Otari deck !!

Guess what I think <Shroomz>ls HP/LP Filter might work. It's extreme amounts might be what the doctor ordered. I shall try it and get back on it's results.

I have 3 full Scope days before I fly out to the Bay Area.

you could get really fancy, and modulate the feedback level of the delay. and/or wet/dry mix

take the track you are delaying (or the live source)
delay it by (optional to get a couple of full level delays)
put an envelope follower on the delayed version with a longish decay
use the envelope from the envelope follower to modulate the feedback level and/or wet/dry mix

good luck doing this with UAD, RME, or yamaha fun factory

Back in the day of the Pink Floyd and Yes heyday , there was an actual guy riding the sliders on the mixer to make the delay sound just so.

I like that trick, but as you shall soon discover I am quite lame as a tech type of guy. I am very linited, but learn from examples.

scope just buy more super expensive reverbs, im sure one of them has that built in

spectralis pwns reverbs in fun quotient :p
