Looking at the newest (black) A16 ultra AD/DA converter box by SonicCore:
Wouldn't it be cool to have the same device with XLR connectors?

well, combo sockets. and since you would need at least 2U for it anyway, a balanced/unbalanced switch per socket would be nice...

that'd require a 3 space chassis...
it WOULD be nice, but soldering a trs end is pretty easy....

It seems someone at SC listened to your prayers... just saw this on their website.
Enjoy

The power of suggestion is quite amazing.

so that means I did not properly concentrate on thinking "PCIe. PCIe. PCIe."

does not work. I already ordered ralf to lay his hands on it for me.

Good move, they're really gorgeous.
you know, it's amazing what a difference a good design decision can make to the desirability of a product...

well both the white and black design looks way better.
And while it is only a cosmetical thing, it looks more seriously and so fits better to the scope product portfolio ....

Well i can't really understand this move.
A16 could already handle both unbalanced and balanced signals.
I could understand the move if it could replace a 16 channel preamp (phantom power, gain etc).
Is there something i don't see?

I was wondering the same thing. If it isn't a mic preamp box, what good is it, being XLR?

well, there is a lot of outboard gear delivering balanced I/O as XLR, so it's the easiest way to take a mic cable instead of a XLR to TRS whip. yes, you can use a TRS to TRS cable for gear that has combo sockets, too, but that's not always the case.
equipping balanced outputs with TRS sockets seems to have established as a workaround in situations where high port density is desired only.
