My current Psychedelic gig is now perfectly set up for the FB5 w/ the 3LFO Module. It is an experinence in sonic beauty.

It has 8 mono channels, each w/ the FAT-GM built into it, along w/ the LP,HP, and BP Filters as well. Each channel also has 8 inserts pre-fader where the awesome mono filters and effects can be inserted, and each channel can be modulated by the 3LFO device inserted into the A,B,and C modulation inserts.

WC Pro One Vrs.3.0, Studio Electronics SE-1x, and a Modular Mono Synth in a 4 mono out configuration take the mono channels. The SE-1x's big buzzy sound gets layered w/ the new filters of the Pro One, and extreme harmonic content of the Modular Mono Synth. The channels are stacked w/ different mono effects where their bypass buttons can switch them off / on from my controllers, as well as other various parameters controlling rate, and depth, etc. via MIDI CC's.

The 5 stereo channels are where the B2003, Prowave Vrs.1.2, and 3 x stereo ASIO 2 channels. The 3 AUX design allows excellent control on bleedover, or separation functions. DAS DynaPara, Lexicon PCM91, and the PCM81 are used. Each stereo channel has the LP,HP, and BP Filters built in along with the FAT-GS, and the 3LFO Modulation choices. 32 stereo Gigastudio libraries are mixed and sent to 3 different stereo channels in the FB5.

All functions of the mixer are MIDI controlled, along w/ all FX, hardware, and software.

The E6700 CPU is in this DAW, and it can use 1.3GB's of the 2GB's of CL3 RAM for streaming audio.

This DAW is ready for battle. I can perform many styles as it is capable of loading 32 libraries of 24bit sample content.

Scope and GVI / Bidule has been running 24/7 for 3 months now maxxed out, and pushed. I leave this on for days at a time !! It is the most awesome set up I have ever used for live performance. The FB5's sound is superior to the STM series mixers, and when these new mixers are released, I'm sure many here will agree. Total control for synth's, and samplers.

I use 4 x CC8's and 22 buttons on my top controller to switch through effects, while changing rates, depth, and LFO amounts. It fuckin' smokes hardware mixers 4 sure. The bypass led's are switched by the buttons, and 4 x different expression pedals, w/ a ribbon controller make my lead synth modulate, buzz, swell and scream like no other synth. Hybrid is the only way w/ me. I can never use hardware w/o Scope, and vise-versa.

I can release it soon "as is" (it has one or two modifications), and dsp management is not yet available (in the philosophy of the mixer, it is not required, if it is done, it would be only because other users ask for it). But it can be done, so it may be done in the future. Now it is for big dsp farms or session dedicated to mixing in FB5....

I' d like to add also that the "preset" button near the inserts is only a "load" inserts (with their own default settings, not your own: for this it is either the effects presets or the main preset or the project). In the newer version, it is labelled "load". The preset button at the top is for valve+filters, and is a sub-preset (that can be saved/loaded in another channel). This is not a very very important point but I prefer to clarify in case of confusion/expectations about the mis-labelled "presets" of the channel's insert slots which should in fact be labelled "load".

Big DSP Farms

I use 2 x 15DSP Type IIs' w/ 1 x 6DSP Type II.

I found that the extra DSP's are not utilised effectively. You do see a small increase in the amount of added devices, but hardly worth justifying the price of the extra 8-9 DSP chips. It's a PCI bandwidth issue IMO.

I tried several different configurations using Type I's, Type II's, 3 x 15's, 2 x 15's w/ 1 x 6, etc.,etc. This is the best bang for a buck IMO.

And my rig ain't no fuckin' farm.

I consider it a DAW chock full of fierce predators, and pack hunters.

Since Scope / Giga DAWg's are incredibly stable for live gigs and studio work, I only need one to use myself now. I also have a DAW in Tahoe for rehearsals, and local gigs, where the same projects and configuration are used.

My personal Vegas DAW will go into surgery in late December. The upgrade is mainly for anticipated GS4 / GVI, The DFI X38 T2R w/ a QX9650 will be a monster live. Even in 32bit XP mode it will utilise 3GB's of DDRII CL3 RAM. A new GS4 memory tweak.

Mehdi acts like this mixer is a hog on DSP. I beg to differ.

It takes 6 DSP, similar to a Flexor III patch.

It was designed to take up the whole screen surface though. It can be seen perfectly well from a distance of 1 to 3 meters under thousands of watts of PAR lamps.

The DAS FOH / Monitor mixer was designed the same way. Black or dark blue backgrounds, w/ fluorescent faders, and stock white work very well. Hell even in a dark studio at night, those mixers can be controlled form my KS88's and seen perfectly well from a distance.

I'm sure Mehdi has made the commercially released mixers for smaller placement, but if you use these live, you will understand the concept of design, and appreciate it's value during a gig.
