by next to nothing
SparC fan here as well, if someone was allowed to modify it with an "osc-cycler" it would be a perfect Korg Mono/Poly substitute! i miss my old hardware one, but this synth makes life a lot easier
I Also tend to use spacef's small mixers as default, and his Echo series.
For compressors i still use the stock CW ones as my upgrade to Scope 4.5 with Mix And Master rendered my Pulsar card with no serials a year or two ago (dont remember, but it was frigging long time ago). tough luck.

Cool bird!!
Another very fat bird which will have to be prised from my dying fingers :-
Not solid state.. Quiet as a mouse and can be overdriven to distraction or remain as transparent and wispy as a ho's undergarments. The thermionic compressor, which I lust after, is not three bad either. Never tried the cranesong.

PS I'm interested to see where your excursions with VDAT end up. I'd like to use VDAT in a firefight someday. Just a matter of getting the troops in shape,

Yes, the Earlybird is a fierce predator.
It is quite popular around LA and Bay Area Mastering facilities that I have visited.
It should be named the Terradactyl it is so " Big " sounding. But I will settle for a more graceful fish catcher,...the Flamingo. My friend has 37 vintage and new mic pres. I can pick up the Crane Song from him for 1000 USD, only because he has 2. He collects top shelf mics and mic pres. He actually rents them out around the West Coast, and they have paid for themselves many times. Just 3 months ago my studio partner rented his pair of AKG C-12 VR2's for 1500 USD for 30 days ?!?!?!
I would never pay 5000 USD for a Frickin' mic !! They claim they have a certain unnattainable fullness when recording spaces for impulse recordings, and acoustic instruments and vocals. I really didn't notice much difference between the recordings of the instruments. But noticed a huge difference when he recorded this silly acoustical dome at a local High School. The RCA 77 ( ancient ), and Telefunken TD20 sounded fine to me on the playback, but the AKG's were like comparing a Lexocn 960L, to a Zoom half rack reverb ( AARRGGHHH ).
You better hope you rent these often to get your money back. Oh well, he loves his gear, and I suffer from purchasing stuff I rarely use as well. So I guess my sickness will continue as well.
I wish there was a place to demo anything audio related. Our stores here are mostly generic. There are some specialty shops I really like in LA, and the Bay Area, but in Vegas, it's your basic Shure 57 places. This guy also has this really shitty collection of vintage Realistic mics from Radio Shack back in the '60's !! Believe ot or not the local rappers love this stuff, as they swallow the mic and do vocal drums and all of that annoying shit.
I did like the Brotha' from the Police Academy movies though. He could do some amazing Hendrix stuff, and killer 808 grooves.
