What about the P5K C motherboard from Asus to be used with Pulsar I Plus? Is it a good choice?

I’m reading reviews like crazy, asking questions, investigating, visiting stores etc., as I am finally ready for the upgrade. Luckily, a job that I was waiting for to be confirmed, has been confirmed positively, so I can go…

I am thinking about two processors, which are:

CPU INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6600 - 2.4 GHZ 1066 MHZ 4MB LGA775 BOX

Or

CPU INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6750 - 2.66 GHZ 1333 MHZ 4MB LGA775 BOX

Both come with their respective fan.

It seems strange to me that the E6750, having the exact same specifications of the E6600 is still about 5 dollars cheaper. And the FSB anyway, is faster being at 1333, which is the only difference with the E6600.

It is easy for me to chose the E6750 as a faster option, but it makes no sense the lower price… Why is it so?

when i opened my similar thread, and the 6750 is 20 Euro cheaper!


But which motherboard for 1333MHz front side bus?
And further: can I use ( at least for the first period ) my 533MHz DDR2 in such bus or it must be replaced?

i don't see any reason why you can't use the old ram. many motherboards may be able to use the faster fsb with a bios update...

Are Intel's dg965ry and dp965lt between those?

Well, this is so confusing… the new market is more complicated than even, at lest, to my eyes… There are too many “everything”, too many memory sticks, too many processors, to many boards, too many video cards… everything… its crazy. You need to spend days of reading to understand what is going on.

Anyway, do you have any idea about Pulsar working with Intel P-35?

I certainly trust what you say Gary and take serious note of what you point out when giving advice understanding that you are constantly building new systems and in general, in touch with technology and people’s needs.

I wanted to go with an Intel board 965 as you suggested me. The problem is that compatibility is a hard matter because of the too many items to choose from. It is difficult to reach a perfect mach of cost-performance. This is what I’m trying to do. There are several issues going on, for instance, Win XP will support only 3.2GBs of ram DDR2. So if you install 4GBs you’ll only use 3.2GBs. You need a 64bit OS to truly sacale up to whatever your board offers: 8, 6, 12, 16 GBs of ram. Of course, I don’t need 8 or 12, but 4 will certainly use.

Then it is the fact that DDR3 is a waist of money and time… you’ll perform perhaps 1 to 2% better with DDR3 compared with DDR2. Which is not true either, if you consider that you can, with the extra money, full your system with much more ram… Now, fortunately the boards that are coming out today, with the P-35, accept most of them, DDR2 and DDR3. So, I want the latest chipset and an older ram.

Now, there is the issue with the core 2 or 4… because programs must be written in order to work with more than one CPU… Ufff, that’s crazy, that’s crazy.

I have chosen to go with a P-35 board because I have read several reviews that tell it is much better in the way it handles ram, and this is most important. Then because it is ready for the 45nm new processors, so I can take advantage of a cheaper upgrade in the future.

I will soon post the whole of components I’m thinking to use for the upgrade.

I`m working perfectly with Asus P5K deluxe wi-fi/ap + corsair (1066 fsb) + intel e6850

With Pulsar 2 plus (I´d got it to 7 days ago)

Really like the Intel DP35DP (Dragontail peak).
Just... In the features are reported 2 conventional PCI slot only, ( + 1 PCI E x 16 + 3 PCI E x 1, for a total of 6 slots).
But I can see 7 slots in the image, and 3 of those are conventional PCI.

Wow! I have read an extensive review on the Intel DP35DP in Spanish language, and they say it is extremely reliable, stable and bullet-prove. It is quite cheap for what it offers.

It has absolutely no overcooking capabilities, nothing at all; you must use everything as it comes from stock, but with a guaranteed security and stability.

They did tones of hard testing with perfect results. The build of the board is said to be of superior quality.

Unfortunately, I’ve searched for the board in Chile, but it doesn’t not exists yet…

I guess it's too busy/expensive to buy it online outside Chile.

Maybe it will be available in September or in the next months...

I just sent Intel an eMail asking about PCI slots. Have u read anything about?

the DG33FB has 3 pci slots. the DP35DP has 2.

So that is the wrong picture of it. I can't believe one of those slots is there just to fill empty space.
Maybe it's an earlier version..

No, unfortunately I cannot buy from abroad, it is too expensive that way... I have to do it here. If this board was availabe inmediately, I would have taken it, it is exactly what I want. Oh well... life is much more than that...
