Seems like one hell of a bot attack the past couple of days. Regularly 35-40 users online is abnormal for PlanetZ. At one point on wed' I think it was, there were apparently around 90 users online, which is just not right.

Zealots?

I have small forums that I use as mostly a bookmarking tool (it's often more convenient for certain things than local bookmarks or foxmarks etc). I see about 200+ bot accounts created per week. So many in fact that I have disabled the ability for an end user to activate their account on their own. I also have forums for my clientelle off of my nearly invisible 'business' website, and even that gets 15-20 signups per week. Most of these guys are smart enough to not even attempt posts with the accounts that are created, as they stuff their profiles with url's to get their crappy pr0n and spam sites propagated up in the search engines by the number of inbound links.


These bots are finding forums through simple google searches, either from keywords such as PhpBB and Vbulletin, or other known strings from well known forum packages (I tried removing the PhpBB tag for a while and it only worked for a short time, plus it makes updates a hassle as certain pages must be done by hand).

Captchas no longer work as a deterrent either as the bot coders simply write scripts to feed the captchas back to 'captcha farms' in China, Indonesia etc where people are paid pennies on the hour to sit there and repeatedly enter the captcha codes, which are then fed back to the bot scripts to complete the account. The level of automation here is actually surprising, it's most cases not simply an end user trawling around creating accounts, which you might at first think.

I've wondered somwhat how google handles forums that don't regularly clean out their user lists, since sites that do linkfarming are often hit hard in their ranking.

Sounds great this software. Untill now I had Invisible keylogger, but it not satisfied me. Hope spysure is better!
