Sidechain Compression and 24bit scope audio?

Hey,

I have a couple of questions for anyone who would know the answer.. they are unrelated questions but I figured why not kill 2 birds with one post ;)

1. I've been using 16 bit audio for the last 5 years, but would like to change to 24 bit.. I don't see an option for this in scope - how would I enable it? Are there any additional settings I have to do in windows after this?

2. I always see these 'sidechain' boxes on compressors like Vinco etc, but have never used them before.. What are these for and how does one typically use this in a mixing or mastering scenario?

Thanks!

24bit audio is handled just the same as 16bit. if the original is 24bit, then scope is 24bit. that ad/da converters and the software i/os are used decide this.

sidechaining is to allow a different signal than the one being processed to controll the processor. for example, with a compressor on a bass guitar sidechained to the kick drum to duck the bass guitar when the kick drum sounds...

The only time anything on the Scope side determines if something is 16bit is when you use the non-24bit WAV drivers (unless I'm mistaken). Ie, ASIO 1/2 should be fine, GSIF should be fine, and use 24-bit WAV drivers.

there are ASIO 24bit source/dest modules in the menu, though. i thought the 'asio source' module is 16 bit (valis?)...i've no manual here.
