Demos of Vinco and of...

Hi to all,
I'm from Italy, I'm new registered on the forum, but it's since some time that I read over here when looking for news, infos, tips, tricks.
Years ago I was subscribed to the pulsar/scope mailing list.
I have a Pulsar 1 card since many years (since '98 or '99), and a year ago I got also a Pulsar 2 card to couple with the first one... to pass mixing digital with STM2448.
Before that I was still mixing on analog consoles (Mackie SR24), 'cause I wasn't satisfied about other hardware digital mixers.
Anyway...
I opened this topic to ask you where I can find demos of
Vinco and
SPL Transient Designer.
Once they were available at Creamware shop, but since Sonic Core has bought the company and changed the web shop, I can't find them anymore.
So, where now?
I'm very interested (and impressed) by the new EQ and compressors by DAS, but I'd like to have a chance at listening to
Vinco too, before making my final choice.
I was considering UAD too (know lot of people who have it), but my choice is more and more pending toward remaining on SFP for those vintage hardware FX emulations (like ones from UAD) that I need (just a few, not tons of them). This due also to latency problems I'd have using VST plugins (and UAD's of course) as inserts in STM2448 mixer.
Thanx in advance for the help.
All the best.

No where ... sorry
You can, however, go to hifiboom's site to find some samples where he uses these two devices.

just like when buying hardware, unless you find a dealer who can set you up with a proper hands on demonstration, you are buying blind. an mp3 demo will never tell you anything of importance about the device. you have to physically use it, touch it and hear it. unfortunately, there are those who have abused demos to get the devices for free, and now.....
i'd say this, the vinco and uad1176 are slightly different, but having the vinco, one can easily live without the uad. it's a very good compressor, equal in quality to my hardware compressors including dbx165 and 166, jbl/urei 7110, symetrix cl-100 and cad cgm-2 champ, all units that would be comfortable in real studios around the world. it fills the 1176 void in my collection nicely and it's the main compressor i use, just because it's nice sounding and convienient as well.

Ciao, mandami dei loops che vuoi sentire compressi e magari ti faccio avere dei rendering con Vinco.
Il transient non ce l'ho perché mi sono fatto TD-1 che puoi trovare nel forum devices gratis.
Secondo me è più potente

regarding eqs you should have a look at
http://www.deviceplug-ins.com/eq2.htm
the ISON is probably one of the most underestimated Scope devices
it just came back to my attention ...and I eventually browsed the PDF doc

while doing some sorting and cleanup of my recent installation.
Simon's approach of a gui may not hit the contemporary spirit of typical analog emulations, but there's an excellent concept behind the plugin.
Erminardi's TD1 is about specific optimizations he considered important for his music (if I understood correctly) - afaik Transient Designer in it's precise operation is still unmatched.
It's not only about making things more 'impressive' - it's reducing features are probably even more useful (when you need them).
I once removed a significant amount of typical late 60s shatterverb from an otherwise excellent recording (on an old vinyl, just to proove it could be done).
I'm convinced with mid-side processing the result would have been even better.
Another use entered my mind in the local music shop when playing one of those silent guitars - the piezo pickups have an ear-torturing amount of attack. TD should have no problem to bring it down to enjoyable levels again. etc.
It's a very precise an un-coloring tool for arranging the deepth of a mix, instead of using reverbs or delays (for example)
cheers, Tom

sorry my site is down at the moment...
This free webhost server with 10GB was down the last days.
They seem to have had a crash the last week.
But obviously they have put things up to running again now, but it seems that all accounts were deleted.
So I`ll have to reregister and upload the site back again.
Maybe I`ll do this tonight or the next days.
Maybe I should choose a more reliable webhost service.

Yep, Astro, my TD-1 is tuned for obtain woofer-killer loops or hits in electronic music without peak distortion or too much compression.
For shure TD-1 is not the best transparent device...
Infact I find SPL TD too much transparent and "for all purpose".

Oops!
I realized only now that I messed up with SPL plugins names!!
The one I meant is SPL Attacker....
for give punch to percussive sounds.
Forgive me, please.
However I know already the answer: nowhere!

SPL Attacker is a cut down version of Transient Designer, it features only attack and relase bost instead TD bipolar settings.

polarity, I have never touched the attacker, as the Transient Designer just has more features.

same here
you can't go wrong with Vinco and TD/AD, both are amazing tools.
TD is not alone a 'restauration' tool, it's also a mixing tool, it allows you to put sounds on foreground (or at the background) in the mix.
Usefull when you feel satisfied with the instruments volumes but wanne have more depth in the mix, or if the mastering compressor unintentialy levels up a certain element too much.
This works extremely accurat, changing the attack time you hear the sound move from back to front and vv.
Negative sustain values cut the ambient load without artifacts, nice for f.e. reverberated drumloops which you'd like to have more clean (Astro's point already).
I use TD all the time, tho very carefull

it has to be said,
Transient Designer is pretty audible at its extremest setting, while vinco is not.
So if the budget is limited, I would go for vinco.

mwa, I don't think this is an argument.
The AD is extremely audible at it's extreme settings even, but that's implemented.
For normal (decent) functioning low settings TD does the job extremely good without any irregularities.
I you have to choose between the two, I would ask yourself what you need most, a saturator/compressor or a tool for transients and sustain control.
In the end, one can live without TD, but not without a compressor.
So if you don't have one, Vinco is a perfect choice.

i agree 100% with that ! Transcient Designer is a very special tool i would recommend of course as it is very creative too !.. Vinco is more "useful" as you will use it more but it depends on your music style too ... As for the DAS plugins as you have the demos, you will find out that they are excellent... I have received the keys of the last DAS compressors (i mainly use scope for mixing + add some extra synth

) ... they sound analog like their EQs and give life to the digital world ... perfect for me. Except ISON (may be?), i do think there are no equivalent within scope (please note i have not tried ISON, so ask people who did ... i am just not fond of the GUI like i was not about the Celmo ones).
Well, depending on your money (you could buy all of them !), and as you use Scope for mixing, i would focus my attention on the comp/EQs/vinco rather than Transcient Designer...
Many people are happy with ISON and DAS EQs according to this forum and feed-backs so i would first of all chose good EQs as this is one of the most important tool for mixing ! After that, just ask people who owns the product and do not hesitate to ask directly 3rd party developper (using their website) what they think about their product and how they built it and what are their key features, ... You will then find the difference between a good plugin and an excellent one, those using soniccore atoms and those using new atoms etc...

You might also want to check out Sonic Timeworks stuff. About Vinco/TD: Another way to see it is, that with Scope you already have a compressor. I think sometimes there is a tendency to underestimate the stock devices due to gui and because they are "free".

Where did I hear that stuff before

Btw, what's wrong with Soniccore's stock atoms?
We've seen this discussion before, when a certain company put stock atoms together in a new (and much better) GUI.
The problem was not that the sound wasn't good, the discussion kept fed by the denial of the fact.
Anyway, if you ask the creator of a product about it's quality, it's always 'great'

You better trust your own ears, or independent friends.

Defintly right ! DAS stuff has its own sound which can be very useful in terms of creativity but if you need regular plugins to do the job, then a soniccore standard comp is ok (as in hardware stuff, you may need coloured and neutral gear too !). I really love the SonicTimeWorks reverbs but i have not read anything about their comp so... Who knows ?
