2448 channel processing

When you hook up sound sources to the inputs of a 1632 mixer, the dsp usage doesn't go up at all. But when you hook up the same amount of sound sources to the 2448 mixer, the dsp usage goes up dramatically. I'm guessing this is because something about the channels in the 2448 mixer really consumes processing, and it is only allocated when a connection is made. Is there any way to lessen this processing per channel? I'm stuck with a 6 chip system and not likely to upgrade in the near future so I can : use the 24 channel 2448 with very little DSP left to do anything, or use the 16 channel 1632 mixer, without the flexibility.

disable eq or compressors that you're not using. you're right, dsp usage is dynamic on that mixer. the more things that are disabled, the less dsps used.....

Yeah my ears like the sound of that mixer - I searched planetz for some articles comparing the sound of 3216 vs 2448 but didn't find anything useful... Does anyone have a link to such a discussion, if there ever was one?
