Is the "Scope Project" card enough that it will make a huge difference in my cubase streamed mixes. I havent the money right now to get the big 14 dsp card(oh how i want that soooo baaad! . I do mostly vst music with some vocal recording.

I have been chasing this ITB quality issue since 96, I really need to know if this thing will put me in the league with major studio's sound quality.

I am loosing sleep following this platform. Every night after work i get off at 4am and stay up till 2pm researching.

definitely your mixes will get better :-)
The Scope system is easy to expand, just add another (2nd h.?) board, connecting it to the first one with the STDM cable and you're done.
New cards from Sonic Core (the new Creamware) are expected to be released next year, a price fall of the 2ndh.) old ones will be probable.
Yet PCI will last for some years at least and new mobos combining PCI and PCI-e are also available.

im totaly convinced the scope platform will make me joyful, but i guess what im really asking in terms of mix capabilities is, the Scope Project Card, is it enough to handle a complex project of say 24 tracks with effects, all streamed from Cubase SX? it only has 6 chips, is that sufficient to handle that?

mixer and some compressors for 24 channels? almost.
mixer and a few effects? sure.

you can still use vsts in the cubase mixer and still improve your mixes considerably. it doesn't have to be all or nothing. you could get a few cheap bits of hardware to use in your mixes too....

For 24 tracks with effects!
You will need about 14 DSP Chips (Estimated).

But if you can not do it all at once, you can mix some parts into a sub group, then some other parts, and continue like this and then mix the groups together. It takes more time, but it is another option.

that is a very possible solution indeed with the sub mixes. I very much would like to test this card out, but their isnt a place that stocks them in my town.

I just bought one for probably the exact reason you are. I havent routed cubase into it yet, but when you gaze into the Routing Window and Realise you have a Full studio of endless possiblities , you cream your pants (is this normal  )

Been playing with Modular III .... all i can say is :o :o GOD BLESS WHOEVER MADE THIS synth, I dont have to get a Nord now :D :D :D !!!

Im Pulsar 4 Life !!! .. the only upgrades I will be doing is more soniccore DSP power if need be But for now Im over the moon!! If you run into any dramas along the way, I can vouch that Soniccore will be very keen to help you out as soon as they can!!

Get it get it get it!!! you wont regret it!!

stompa,

if the modular stuff is not enough features for you, you`ll go and get this pack:
http://www.adern.com/home/modules.php?n ... view&id=21

then you`ll smoke the nord modular in a pipe.... :D

if you get a 6 dsp board i would take profit of the main plugins :
- P100 or A100 reverbs from sonictimle works (77€ for the best reverb i have ever eared !) ; just use it as an aux effect !
- vinco on some tracks (eg. : drums), psyQ can help you a lot
- mixing within scope has always sounded better for me (i use nuendo).

And eventually, the converters will help you a lot when it comes to external takes (voacals, instruments...).

As it has been said, remember that you WILL upgrade your system once you taste the scope system ... by now you can "prepare" withincubase (e.g. some EQing on some tracks,etc...

Great Info!
Garyb and LHong is there a reference of any kind that tells you what to expect performance wise(mixing) from the different scope cards or do you guys just know from real world experience?

Welcome yish313, knowledge is power!!

Yish,

Do you have any clips you can post or direct me to? I'm curious as to the state of your current mixes. Scope is not going to put you in any different league that couldn't be achieved with Native. I have Scope yet I mix in SX. If there was a difference I'd be using Scope to mix with.

You mention vocal recording. That's the one big advantage Scope does have, no latency monitoring.

Give me a breakdown on what plugins are you using in SX at the moment.

With Scope you will have access to Vinco which is on par with some great hardware, I sold a $3000 dbs blue 160SL when I a/b'd it. The SonicTimeworks Reverb and Chorus is very nice as well, basically a PCM90/80.

The synths are generally a cut above what you find in native although it depends what types of sounds you program as to how much of a difference you'll hear.

You will basically have an almost equivalent to some nice hardware but in DSP form. That being said Native has caught up pretty far. I don't use half of these Scope modules anymore as I've found replacements that better fit my workflow yet still give me as good of sound in Native.

Don't get me wrong Scope is a great system, I just hope your expectations are realistic to what it's actually going to give you.

I'd love to hear an example of one of your mixes though, that would make it clearer as to what you actually need to get to the next level.

In case you are interest:
It is the "real world experience" @ mixing-down performance. I have 30+ DSP chips, totally ready for Scope samplers and synths as needed. Keep in mind that, once you have the Scope setup you will always want more and more DSPs that what you have in system.

Let me put an example soundtrack as "real world reference" (Done within Scope Boards) then welcome to have comments about Mixing's Quality.
Of course the MP3's quality is about 80% of its Wave-CD format.

The rough mixed:

The Final Mixed as follows:

BTW, If Anyone is interested the (completed) MIDI file for this song then let me know.

Enjoy it,

Thanks LHong and congratulations on the success of your work. Your composition is very nice and the quality is excellent. Could you give some detail of how many tracks were used, the number of effects and how much of your 30+ dsp's were needed to complete this?

if you look for sfp for synthesis and design 6dsp is enough... for complete project mixing with fx racks i would say get more dsp....

Yes as needed likes 3D-Reverb, for example.
