They are offering a very attractive crossgrade offer this month for Sam Pro. Somewhere around $400USD.

Anyone have any feedback on Sam Pro and Scope working together in harmony or any other observations about it?

I use both Sonar (since the release of 6) and Samplitude (since version 4).
Im am currently using samp 8 with scope without any major problems.
In my opinion they play better together than sonar and scope seem to, but I must admit I am still somewhat new to the scope system...

That's good to know! Thanks! I am also a Sonar user. Was having a heck of a time with V6.2 and that's sort of what prompted all this interest in another recording app. Sonar is OK - lot's of good things about it but it's a tad unstable and has been for me since V3. I guess it's just the nature of the beast but Cake always manages to break as much as they fix (or add) in every upgrade.

Reaper lokks fantastic, but I have been interested in Samplitude w/ it's 32 bit integer application, which seems to be in line w/ Creamware's VDAT, which is also 32 bit integer. I noticed a diiference in mastering as well as summing w/ 32 bit integer apps. They sound larger when placed in the stereo field during mastering.

IMHO,

I use Sam Pro 9 and Cubase SX3. Cubase for projects involving midi and VST instruments and Samplitude for anything else. It's a great multi track recorder and works beautifully with Scope for mastering/ re-recording.
From what I recall, you (Larry) don't use much midi - Samplitude Pro is the app for you. $400 is a good deal. Magix is a good outfit and their forum is responsive and informative, very professional.
There are some mastering tools in Sam that are astounding - FFT EQ & spectral cleaner especially.
I've also got Sonar 6, but hardly ever use it.

Jimmy - are you sure Samplitude uses 32bit integer? I have Samp7, and it uses 24bit integer and 32bit floating point. It may have changed.

Here I was getting excited about file transferring and such. I will re-read. It might have been another app. I was reading about. Or maybe it handles 32 bit integer. Now I'm all tweaked out.

107th AES Show in SF was something I should have gone to, as it is a hop skip and a jump from Tahoe.

Does Sam Pro work well with the newer crop of Duo Core processors?

I've never understood why people who have used a product for so long would crossgrade for a few missing "features", considering all the time and effort that would be needed to learn a new product, as complex as a modern sequencer.

I'm still on SX3 and see no reason of upgrading. Sonar has some nice features, but then so does fruity, reaper, energy xt , tacktion etc... I can't keep up! The real issue for me is what would we do if scope was no more!?

With all of these daw manufacturers trying to get our money they have blured the line between feature ie unique selling point and benefit, as in what we really need to make our music making life easier.

That said I would love if cubase offered 32bit integer processing because for me VDAT is a pita, as it emulates technology that I've never had to use.

There is certainly nothing wrong with using more than one application.

I picked up sonar for a couple reasons. I still use Samplitude for most of my work though.

actually, I tend to write music with sonar and record with samplitude.
personal preference really. either app is perfectly capable, I am just more comfortable with certain functions in each app respectively.

Ha - yeah, why do we need more than one. Good question. I went ahead and ordered the SamPro program. Should be here next week.

To manfriday - thanks for the invite btw - I still plan to stop by Sunday to see your setup. If nothing else we'll get a chance to hang for a few minutes and talk music.

In regards to why do this - I've been using Sonar since V3, TripleDAT before that. I'm not as "sequencer savvy" as some of you. My needs are so simple and yet I have high expectations. All I ask from a DAW is that it is stable and well designed in terms of the GUI. Sonar wasn't bad. Not bad at all but they keep breaking the simplest of things with every upgrade. GUI related stuff that should have never made it past beta testing. I will give Cake credit where credit is due - they have added a lot of stuff to the program in the past 3-4 years. A lot of good workflow enhancements. I have no complaints there at all. In fact, I will probably continue to use Sonar just to keep my hand in it. But I'm not going to jump on the annual upgrade bandwagon anymore just because I can. I'm tired of paying to be a beta tester for those guys. Would much rather settle into a single app that works well on my present platform - plays well with Scope - and impresses my clients.

I think between SamPro and Sonar, I'll have all the bases convered for the foreseeable future. Thanks guys for your feedback.

Yo' Bros', I am from St.Louis, Mo. where the hell is St.Charles? Up By ChiTown? I played all over that state w/ my old group Head East. I remember Beneld, Lebanon, Carbondale, Effingham, Granite City, Waterloo, Marissa ( home of Heil Sound back then ), Chester ( Home of Popeye ), Marion, ( Home of John Gotti ), but never heard of St.Charles, or Elgin? I am truly baffled as my first wife's family lived in Highland, where the women beat their men.

Elgin is about 40 miles west of Chicago. St. Charles is about 15-20 minutes south of Elgin. We're all connected ain't we? One big happy family
