PCI-e makes upgrading motherboard a problem

got tired of my p4 and started looking around for some nice upgrades. Found the ram, gfx card, and cpu... all the motherboards that have gotten good reviews and that I would prefer are PCIe only...
Any suggestions? looks like i will have to try and sell my beloved pulsar cards and go with something else

I'm lurking this Mobo for a cheap Core 2 Duo upgrade later this year. Lots of UAD-1 and Cubase users are already happy with it. If the PCI bandwidth is ok for the Scope's hungry devices (STWP100 comes to mind), it could be the perfect solution for all of us....

the intel d965lt and d965ry are first quality motherboards that work great, are conroe ready and are cheap.

hm... yes... the problem with the asrock is it's pci only
how about this one?

perfect for me since i have two creamware cards. also it's recommended for dual core overclocking.
any thoughts on this?

How about Intel? When someone who builds daily for SFP suggests this, I wouldn't hesitate and try yet another low build quality board, unless you just hate stability, or want to Overclock. Buy it, and start playing. Time is money.

overclocking? on your DAW?
well, if that's how you want to play. i prefer stability to leave the machine running for days without closing programs and being able to work as i please, without having to save or risk a crash.....
i'm sure you're competent enough to handle the technical issues though, so if you want to do it, why not? gigabyte is a quality product. the Intel is better imo. there's a reason they're in new macs. chipset, cpu and motherboard all from the same source, no compatability problems, everything just works....

The Asrock looks very interesting to me because it has an AGP connector and 5 PCI slots. I can keep my current Pci cards with this Mobo ; Matrox P750 with it's 3 X 19" monitors and the UAD-1 and my 2 Pulsars and the 4 firewire port card...
But it yet has to pass the STW P100 test...

functionally they are the same. the ry has on board sound(you'll disable this), the lt is cheaper. i'd get whichever is available.

since I was interested, too, what is different, I checked the intel site again. the RY (precisely: DG965RY) has onboard graphics, while the LT (DP965LT) hasn't, which surely is the reason for the lower price. imho the major difference is the chipset itself (G965 vs. P965), which seem to differ mainly in the point of graphics core integration.
onboard audio is listet for both, btw.
you can use additional graphics on the RY, too, since it has, like the LT, a PEG slot.

this is a clear proof you're not an intel salesman (as you were suspected to be
)
the layout looks very similar. 3 conventional PCI, 3 PCI-E and a PEG. so there should be enough room for extensions. well, they're worth a thought...
I'd prefer the LT, since the internal graphics of the G965 uses portions of the main memory.

yeah, but when using pci-e graphics, the internal graphics are disabled, so no memory drain.

absolutely. but why paying for the internal graphics capabilities when you want to use a PEG card anyway?
