Replaced my fan in my Noah

Replaced the PSU fan in my Noah the other day. CWA use a standard PC PSU which connects to their board via the 20pin connector.

Here's what i did, it's quick and dirty because i didnt want to play around with the PSU too much in fear of electrocution!! (They still hold a charge even when unplugged). The proper way would be to solder the new fan properly to the PSU's pcb.

1. cut wires, remove old fan
2. join the wires to the new fan, tin the tips of wires, and solder
3. use heatshrink to cover the bare wires

I ended up using a silentX fan which is rated at something like 14db. My Noah is almost silent now which is pretty cool.

Thanks, I also thought about a replacement... The question is if the airflow of the new fan is sufficient for all thermal scenarios... A fan with 14 dB(A) noise level will not have the same cooling power than the original one.

I wonder if you could just swap the whole psu with a fanless model.

or rater a psu with a slow 120mm fan underneath to ensure component cooling inside the case

That wouldn't work Piddi. The fan vents would be pressed hard against the top or bottom of the case if you used that type of fan.

you probably dont need a fan that pushes much air, the noah does not get that hot. I think the fan i used was rated at 28cfm.
