scope plugins dsp demand?

Hi!

I'm just getting interested in buying a scope dsp card, but I couldn't find any information on how much dsp power the plugins ( i'm after the synths :) use, so that I could calculate what card I will need.
Can I play a minimax, a protone and the prophetvs synth with a 3 dsp system simultaneously?

i think you might be pushing a 3 DSP card to get all those out of it at the same time :D A 6 DSP card is the minimum you should look at, and maybe try and stretch to a 13 DSP card - you will want one soon enough.

I think that should be possible - given you don't exceed one voice per synth and routing is restricted to the minimum...
of course that's just kidding... :D

your question is understandable, though - it's what allreviews focus on
But these are not 'voices' as in VSTis - I'm tempted to write '...not even the very best VSTis...' come close to the sonic richness and full sound of those 'naked' Sharc voices. It's my standard quote: compare them with all FX shut off - which VST softsynth can stand on it's pure audio engine and still sounds convincing ? ;)

In those synths you mention there are patches that even sound better with less voices and without FX.
That's a fundamental difference, hence # of voices is very difficult measure, but for the top of the line synths you may assume 0.5-1 DSP per voice as a rule of thumb.

cheers, Tom

14dsp is really worth it.

most important is the raised polyphony you can achieve in synths. makes them really big sounded.

+both soft packs
+sdk
............ i forget something?

well, even on 4 DSPs my synths never sounded 'small' imho, but I admit that 12 chips are indeed much more convenient... :D

Thanks! I'm gonna look out then for a used 6+ dsp card.
