Creating Envelope Curves with ModularIII

I wish to change the all-linear envelopes of ModularIII to curvy, slope-like exponential envelopes.
This is critical for kick synthesis, bass creation and many other essential sounds.
as a temp solution I double-patched them into ring modulators, but I still lakes the ability to fine tune the curve's depth.

any suggestions?

Thanks,
ds-sound

I think alot of the EG modules already have the slope knob.

yes, in the multiseg envelope there is the slope pot, or you can use some other module such as slope mod vca or the exponential vca.

Thanks Guys, there still is a problem.

The slope is needed to curve up felxor's hyper envelopes for modulation purposes.
The multiseg is not fast or accurate enough, and the VCA slope is only useful for signal amplification.

Isn't there a third party module that can do this trick?

if you can do an example of your patch, i can better understand what you need to do, but if you have flexor, the control smoother should do the job.

Problem Solved! :D

I met Red-Muze earlier today, and he suggested the following solution:

Image

As you can see, the envelope signal is fed twice into a cross-fade modulator.
At first at his initial linear state, and at second after several multiplications with ring modulators.
The number of ring modulators will define just how extreme the slope will be.
Then you can fine-tune the final curved signal with the cross-fade button!

So simple, yet so brilliant.
I wish I had an SDK, so I'd be able to encapsulate this feature with a neat module.
Will someone else care to pick up the glove...?

Thanks to you all,
ds-sound

it is an easy task to do with sdk,
i first want to try out your patch, because i'm curious to analize the result of ring modulation on envelope signals, very interesting...

go for it.
you'll sure make my day!

HI,

I've used this trick in some of my synth devices, and of course, the problem is that you cannot set separate slopes for each envelope segment, only overall. As long as this isn't a problem, it's a good solution to get snappier envelopes (usually just Decay/Release is what one is looking for to provide more punch).

Hi again,

I just sent ds-sound a single module incorporating the elements of the patch shown above. If he feels it works well enough, I'll post it.

Nothing fancy, just quick and dirty!

It works like a charm! :D
Excellent work, you made me very very happy.
I tested it around with a kick-making patch,
and with a bass-line patch modulated one of flexor's filters.
This little gadget is truly useful! now I can make great booming kicks,
and snappy 'in your face' bass lines.

Thanks, dear man!

you can also put a filter between the envelope and the destination to slope it some.

like a 6db lp closed halfway or so will eliminate the clicks in the envelopes for example.

Glad to see you joining in Faxinadu. Don't disappear when Flexor II comes out. We will need some of your tricks.
