3 cards - extra fan?

I just bought a third card

Now I have 2 x Pulsar 2 & a Luna 2
It would have been easier to start with a professional card...but money comes slowly
I noticed in the manual there is a bit where it says something l along the lines of "if you have 3 cards you might want to consider getting an extra fan"
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Should I just suck it & see?
I have software that monitors temperature so obviously I'll check that, but as we are heading into summer here (Australia), I just thought I'd check experience here that I'm not risking damaging anything by not getting an extra fan before proceeding to enjoy use of my third card.
Also if I did get an extra fan, what sort? & where does it get installed?

if your PC heats up you may add a fan to blow the hot air out.
Most PC cases have places for extra fans
one in the front (under the harddrive) and other under the power supply.
Some decide to remove the PC cover to allow the inside PC get some circulation.
coming up on summer you said eh

It's gonna be a bloody hot, dry one.
Last summer i took the side off and pointed a normal fan at it - seemed to work.

a slot fan might be the thing.

heat makes strange behavior to not only the scope boards!
it depends on the case you are using, the working time( how long they are active) and how active + the temperetur outside
1 for blowing in - 1 for out for me is minimum
in sum i have 5 in 3 out (out ones are bigger!)
the silent ones (had to say HD access of me raptors are louder tzhan all fans together!!9
1 fan for each HD (2)
1 from front 2 from side blowing at scope boards
all fans connected direct to powersupply ( not over MB!)
and i have installed switches to turn on/off each of them individually depending on weasther;
better to invest 100Euro extra to save your 1000Euro cards!
hope this makes sens to you
cool vibes to hot australia form austria

Hello,
I have 3 CW / PIV 3.0
1 big ventilator for a Processor (bigtyphoon)
1 big ventilator for power (extract)
1 ventilator at the top/front face (extract)
It's ok for me.

heating is a luxus problem! - the ground was white this morning.
I say its ok as long as you keep monitoring the temp.

Personnally, I bought some years ago an alu server case :
http://www.lian-li.com/Product/Chassis/ ... _PC-70.htm
I don't know what overheating means and changing parts is a breeze ( pun ! ) with all the SPACE inside
Edit : that said I don't have the latest graphic card and not many cards BUT it was a major improvement over my previous medium towers with same parts.

Server case is the way to go. you dig in up to your elbows changing parts without breaking a swet. it is great to have so much room.

I think components inside small and medium towers are not meant to be changed unless you want to hurt yourself and lose your temper

So refrain to avoid local overheat.
by keepeng the case opened the hot air is not accumulated inside of it, so the overall temperature is lower than having a closed case without a good ventilation.

Yep, I used to open the cases too as most cheap and easy solution even if it's not sexy and even if more dust sets in ( the vacuum cleaner ) ...

We keep our cases open too. Mostly not because of air flow or heat problems, but because the metal housings resonate at high frequencies on our cheapo cases because of psu & cpu fan vibrations, so having them open relieves that somewhat. Zero problems with airflow, but dust is indeed a problem when you've got a case full of electrically charged components .. lol

too many choices!
I will definitely get some sort of fan, rather than risk my investments in the cards
I like the slot fan idea, but do you put it above or below or inbetween the cards?
also should you leave space (a pci slot) between the cards? - this would seem to be a good idea...I'll have to mave the cards around again, cos I didnt think of it when I first them in
I have a large case, opening it up & pointing a fan at it could be a short term solution, but that just becomes another power cord & item getting in the way
maybe I will do a bit more research on google as well, thanks everyone for the replies
