Hi, my first post here... anyway...

I have installed windows vista (on a second partition of course...) and I am not able to get any sound out of my pulsar 2 card. It will install and it looks like its installed propperly but no sound. I was also able to install scope 4.5 even though I dont have bought that version. The 4.0 version did not work.

anyway... any ideas? I know that there is no vista drivers yet... but, just want to try it anyway.

Hi there

Microsoft have completely changed the driver model for Vista from XP. I think that they've moved (most) drivers out of Kernel space into User space, for a start. You won't be able to install anything in Kernel space without it having a fully verified security certificate, and hand-wrapped with a nice pink bow by Bill Gates himself*.

To bad... May be it stops with win xp then. I must say that scope is good! Nice direct monitoring with effects even in xtc mode. Just great!
I hope creamware will make some drivers for vista.

There's some information here on Vista's new audio features - it seems to imply that it will have features a bit like CORE audio on a Mac with very low latency built in going way beyond what WDM can do etc. Sounds like this would mean a radical rewrite for Creamware though (particularly as they haven't even managed anything for OSX yet have they?)

IMO all we have been using Scope on XP. For me that means that XP is only the base of the system, and compared to win98 I´m pretty happy with XP.
Now think, what is what gives you the power of making music, using synths, effects, sampler, low latency.. Creamware or Bill Gates?
Just folow what gives you what you need. If Win Vista comes with a Scope inside it, I´ll consider the use of Vista, if no, I´ll keep using Scope as have been using.
If Vista would never appeared, would you been worring now?
If has something specially good, as simple as use a OS loader for different uses.
Regarding to Mac, I have special dislike for the platform, aswell as I have for Protools. They seem walk over others, and collect quite high checks.
I´m really not worry about Mac drivers. Why those superior human would need a Scope?

Thant kind of mindset would have us still on bars and pipes on Amiga

Seriously, Most of use other software with Scope and the fear is that in order to stay current for whatever reason, a Move to another OS is inevitable as our sequencers move to Vista. That said, I think we still have a couple of years left ( at least) in SFP before the major audio apps do the change over to Vista. There will come a time though, unless you clients are not "gear" shopping before they pick a Studio. Most often question I hear is "What are you using?" followed by, " Is it ProTools?"

Sad, but that is the mindset and I depend on their $$....

I second that. Sod Vista (although we may be 'forced' to use it for the 'net')

Sod M$ & App$e, as we already have what we want.

Don't fix things that work perfectly well for the sake of speeding things up a little, as you will regret it.

Vista is TCPA compliant & imo we should all be considering keeping our non TCPA compliant machines running, whatever it takes!! & offline !! ... Fu*k them !!

don't use it unless you have to.

well, in the end we will all move to Vista as more and more manufacturers will port their drivers and cease support for XP. Of course, this will take some years, just like the transition from windows 98 to XP.
But I don't think many of you still use 98 now do you?

Progress is good. Hopefully Vista will manage to improve on the already rather good XP and we'll all be happy. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Well, there are two posibilities,
one: in these few years, we´ll have Scope drivers for Vista.
two: will have no drivers never.

In the posibility number two, you´ll have to decide, take your Scope to rubbish and use pretty VSTs, or keep using Scope on a old system like XP. It will just an individual decision.
I think Cubase SX3, XP, and Scope4 will be old, but sure much more a mucisian need, or in my case, more that I need.
I think there is a underground issue here, IMO, when the musician has much inside, will take out much even from one only one instrument.
When there is not much inside, we need to get entertaiment anywhere, like in new features of last version of a sequencer, new drivers for Vista etc.
With STS only, you have a inlimited fount of sounds, as many as you load into it,
there are lots of synths to can build sounds, sounds and sounds,
and we have effects to add sugar to it,
and have sequencer to record tracks and tracks and tracks, of sounds sounds and sounds, instruments and instruments, from pianos, to congas, Sax, etc etc etc.
Just perhaps the problem is inside us, and in this case I don´t agree with some opinions here. Even on 2015, there is a Cubase SX8, I will be doing the same, play and record, the thing before was done with a tape recorder, what can be done with first cubase version avaible.
Seems, as more posibilities we have, more we need, or more bugs we find, maybe the bug I just in our own. In the past was made much better music than now, with 4 instruments, and a tape recorder.

Just my guess but I reckon it's highly unlikely that CWA will develop drivers for vista.

Is there any real benefit in using or upgrading to vista? XP seems to work pretty good for everyone.

if scope and cwa are still around and vista becomes the standard os, you can bet there'll be drivers.

I'm still using Windows 2000 á la Standard PC installation. Works for me, stable as a rock so I'm not planning on changing it anytime soon

you'd be amazed how many synths actually contain a Z80 CPU

Today, I have seen a man, with a Mac laptop, inside was Protools, and outside a Digidesign controler with built-in audio interface. The man was recording a stereo file, in a local concert of quite bad bands.
Impressive!!

I don't know if my *music* gets better with new and better software (probably only if the software upgrade is radical) but my *productions* get better with better software, as does my workflow. That's almost as important.

then his approach worked
he could have done the same with a small Tascam or Marantz for less than 1k Euro..., but they just prefer these things to brag and put themselves in the lines with artists who use the same brand.
Btw neither MacBooks nor Powerbooks (last 2 generations) are road compatible - unless you treat them like raw eggs...
