Is there a thread somewhere to read and better understand sequencing in modular? I can throw together patterns in MC 500MkII at an alarming rate due to 20 years experience, and want to learn the step sequencing approach more thoroughly, and keep my MC-500 as a redundant spare. I guess I'm just getting nervous about pre production starting 2nd week of July. My Kyma/partner/DJ will be throwing loops at me on the fly, and will also have some type of format to follow as in certain grooves, but he is famous 4 his transitions, and improvisational skills with Kyma audio mulching. I am hoping to sync up with his BPM's and have little grooves I can throw back at him while I call up various presets 4 improvs. Any advice will be appreciated.

well, why not just feed the midi of the MC into Modular ?
I frequently use the synth patterns of the DX200 (the groove box thingy) as a 'lazy man's approch' for synth riffs.
They were originally programmed for a DX7 (daughterboard which I removed as it has no single outs anyway), so result is often surprising

I don't think the handling of the Modular's internal sequencers are live compatible, but I didn't rtfm, so there might be a trick I'm unaware of.

cheers, Tom

I Will Find Out,
I just want to have triggers on the KS-88's. The Roland could do this, but I would like to have something in reserve, and hardware sequencers never crash, as they act like a RISC processor on the old big servers once very popular. Remember the Alphas before AMD snagged 'em up? At any rate 15 note on note off triggers oughta do it.So this is another small quest 4 me. Besides if I learn how to do it in modular it will only sharpen my sword 4 better battle s to come.

AFAIK & have tested, all of the sequencer parameters on the modular sequencers are midi controllable. Right click on the on/off button for a step on the gate seq' & enter a controller number. Same goes for sliders on the pattern seq's etc. You can also assign a midi CC to any of the seq's pattern selection or step count text entries, which is very funky.

Basically, it's almost all midi controllable via right clicking on whatever parameter you wish to automate & entering a CC number for that parameter. Unfortunately, AFAIK you can't assign the same CC No. to multiple parameters in modular without using a CC converter.

Hi,

I posted a tip for syncing 808 and 909 groovers to the sequencer. It should work for any step sequencer in modular.

Here's the link:

Brotha'Man Raul,
This reply came just in time as I am writing to Phrase Sequence mode 4 segues and other tasty turnarounds. I shall let you know it works out in Modular.
