All though I've had this synth for months, it wasn't untill today I started to realize it's true potential, when it revealed itself as the answer I've been searching for the past two months!
Having the 4 "instruments" layed out like this at your fingertips is truely a powerfull concept!
Man - I feel like scope4live on a happy day

That's Right Brotha'Man Petal,
My fiancee had put out a contract on John Bowen because of Solaris, and Modular, and when she finally heard some of the music made with it instead of the tweaking of parameters, she cancelled the hit, and thoroughly raped me instead. She's such a criminal.

Yo'Brotha'Man Petal,
Is Q Wave DSP hungry like Solaris? I'm building a 45 DSP box with GaryB and want to use it for SFP only, no Giga, no VST, just SFP. I will be using my old trusty D865PERL 4 that, and using my other 3 cards on a VST/VSTi hosted DAW. SFP mixers,B2003,etc.
My sources tell me that Intel CPU's will drop about 40% by August, due to Conroe's release. So it's a good time to buy lot's of DSP's too. Life is good. I wish to hear more about Q Wave from someone who is using it. So please brag about it in the forums or PM me if you like.

Yes, QWave is very DSP hungry, maybe even more than Solaris. Q-Wave is in fact 4 identical synths (called instruments) which shares the same gui and a mixer. You don't have to use/load all 4 synths at once, but if you do this also shows in the DSP-usage.
To me this concept is powerful when composing complex ambientlike soundscape-voices, all though this is far from the only use of this synth.
Many of the patches that Qwave comes with may seem cacaphonic at first, but when you start to automate or control the volume on each "instrument", the performance (as a preset is called) and the concept of the synth is revealed... well at least it is to me

My guess is that it is also a very fat bastard in disguise when programmed for that sound in mind

One of the things I also realized about this synth the other day, is that I really like the sound of it and the sounds that each "instrument" is capable off. This may not be that different from what Solaris is capable off and I imagine that Solaris is capable of producing a even more diverse soundpalette.
Q-wave makes me think of Vectron and the concept behind this synth, which is an all time favorite of mine, all though Q-wave has it's own distinct character.
But maybe you should ask John B if theres a demo of Q-wave available and try it out for yourself. My needs and tastes may differ from yours

I have Vectron, Avalon, BlueWave, PPGhost which all focus on wavetable synthesis, and in fact QWave has it's very own sound.
it's truely amazing - dunno how John did it... it doesn't duplicate any of the formerly mentioned, not even remotely
I even use it monophonic, preferably with a midi sax, but it's still larger than life what leaves the digital horn...
yes, it can use 20 DSPs, but it doesn't have to, for a great sound
QWave is in the same ligue as Minimax.
With a proper (hardware) surface and the respective promotion there might be people who'd give an arm and a leg for it...
But the way it is, it's just a humble SFP synth, a hidden gem, a raw diamond of sound - a mighty diamond btw

Something with the potential to make a production unique and outstanding - we may consider us very, very happy that J.B. still has all this inspiration
thanks, Tom
