Hi,
I just installed a free version of Rebirth that I got a while ago from CM. The following error has occured.
Error Starting program
THE MSVCIRT.DLL FILE IS LINKED TO MISSING EXPORT MSVCRT.DLL:??_U@YAPAXI@Z.
I have tried to start SFP again without success. I have re-booted the PC again without success.
I have tried to re-install SFP 3.1b but the PC won't do it for some strange reason.
I do have 98SE which I plan to change to XP but not yet as I have some projects to complete.
This has left me confused...but I do know it happened after I installed Rebirth.
Much help is needed please...

Have you tried uninstalling Rebirth?
Also, do you have a ghost or similar backup image of your system?

BTW,
There is also another box with a white X in a red circle that reads:
C:SFPAPPBINSFP.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I'll have a look to see if there is a backup of the system but I'm not an expert at that sort of thing but I have saved any MIDI files etc...that took time to create.
Yes,
I did un-install Rebirth. I think the problem may have come from the fact I was about to install the mod packer but I cancelled it before the final confirmation to go ahead and install it. I'm just grasping at straws at the moment...anyhow quite weird.

BTW,
I have also tried the uninstaller for SFP in the BIN of SFP.

Seems like you folks have given up!!!....OK I'm currently installing 2.04 which is the first version of the software I had and it seems to be taking.
Then I hope to be able to load the 3.1b over the top of 2.04...watch this space.
BTW...what were the main differences between 2.04 and 3?

Shroomz,
What's the best way to create a ghost (copy) of your entire system?

Hi,
Maybe you have overwritten one dll. win98 was known to poorly manage dll with the same name.
So maybe you should uninstall both (rebirth and scope, restart your computer and re install scope. But I am not sure it will be enought
cheers

MD69,
98SE has been uninstalled and has seemed to recover itself to an earlier time which I don't understand since but the situation doesen't seem as bad as it did a couple of hours ago thats for sure.

Rebirth (I've tried the free one too) installs an older dll for sure, on a system where I had installed it a photo camera app wouldn't load anymore, giving a dll error.

my guess is the old protection stuff - probably deactivated, but still loaded.

You've installed something which has wiped out (changed) one of the two Windows DLLs you listed.
Problem is described here, you can fix it if you have your original OS installation disk(s):
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=296551
They are both C runtime DLLs.

Counterparts,
Thanks a million, this looks like it'll do it. Have you had this problem too? - and solved it with the link you provided?
If so was it with Rebirth and SFP or something else?
Just out of interest, I'm curious. Anyone would be...

after X hours of bemusement.
Thanks.

I haven't had that specific problem and I'm not sure which install might have caused it, but it's a common enough thing on Windows systems.

on a traditional Mac - no, definetely not

on a current Mac - of course, as I experienced with a WLAN driver that screwed the complete network interface...
