These boards tend to be so serious and angst-ridden that I thought I'd ask something pleasant: What's your favourite softsynth?

My favourite is the Saturn. It's supposed to be an emulation of the Roland Jupiter 6. I used to play a Jupiter 6 live (it's damned heavy!) and the Saturn does a pretty fair imitation. I like it's thick sound, modulation options, sync, effects and layout. The only downside is that it seems very DSP heavy.

Another execellent, but simple, synth is the ZS404. I got this from a French Pulsar site. The ZS is supposed to be based on some French synth I've never heard of. It only has about 8 knobs, but the sounds are fantastic. The key to this machine are the LFOs. You can pump them up to such a rate that you get the wildest, meanest cross-modulated grind I've ever heard. The hardware synth from Korg, the Monopoly, was the only other machine I've played with this much grind.

Looking forward to hearing about your favourites,
Spirit

Hi,

My favorite is the synchrome, it has very rich sounding leads, and lot of changeable parameters, My next favorite synth is of course the 303 by orbitone, I saw on a Roland 303 fan site that this emualation is the best comparisson to the real 303. . . .
I also like the saturn very much, especially the "oberheim" unit. . .
By the way, he ZS404 device you are talking about is based on a doepfer 404 . . .

I'm also a Saturn fan. I keep coming back to it. Also it's one of the most versitile synths I've seen.

It;s free, but I'm having trouble finding the site again. It was either a French or German site and I got to it from here (heaps of great links here anyway!):

Sorry I can't find the exact location. maybe "tricky" who also replied on this thread may be able to help?

Good luck

It is hard to choose "one", because I like different aspects of them all, but I like YOUKNOW 007 Fat Version, it sounds fantastic.

I definitely like the MKII as well, very much so and the EZSinth, which is fabulous!

You can get the UKNOW fat version on the devices page right here on Planet Z.

Very good it is too - but I think it is outdone by the Miniscope Wavelength Edition (also available in Devices) - it's fantastic! Fat and analogue-sounding as you like, eg. check out the preset 'Classic Moog'. Excellent work Wavelength!

Yeah, many people agreed that the filter of the 'UKNOW fat version' sound way better than the original CW filters, but..

... they are the same, just the presets are different.

These UKNOW007 sound were programmed by Theo Moebus, you can download this version of the device directly from his site (in German)
