The CPU isn't usually the problem. The chipset however is the one to choose carefully.
Give us all the specs of your system, then someone in here might have some experience with your kind of system.

Using AMD x2 multiprocessing gave me terrible ASIO audio performance -- ticks and pops. I've tried every trick I can possibly think of to fix it. If I insert /onecpu into boot.ini to switch Windows into singleprocessing mode, it works great. Unfortunately, you lose of the of the cores.

If anyone else got it to work, write in here!

well, in that specific thread about Shayne's system problems there were 3 answers by people who were happy with an AMD dual setup
ScofieldKid
I'm doing X2 4200+ and an ASUS NVIDIA AGP card in an ASROCK-939 mobo. Awesome CPU, and the mobo has been really stable for me. Very responsive.

Hey claudioDupgraded my . I've system about a month ago which uses AMD X2 with SFP and I can tell you that it works damn good.

Wayne DuCharme
I found all the raves for the Asus A8V on the cubase and Nuendo forums. ...
I had as many of you know "many problems"...
Here is the solution I put in an MSI K8N NEO2 F board - Problems solved. Scope installed all is working well
and some wise words

Why aren't you asking Microsoft why a driver that works in single core doesn't work with dual core? Isn't it their job to make multiprocessor/cores totally transparent in their OS?

Hi Astro,

I think compatibility with AMD dual core is not yet clear, and it's a rather wise decision not to go, particularly as even creamware in their document claim that their platform is not compatible with dual processors. Shayne might use his system in a way which hilight some instability not faced by others configs.

Positively, if we could help Shayne to solve his problem, I would feel confortable to recommend someone else to invest in this platform.

Speaking of Shayne, I think there is something interesting to check: Buyakasha config have XP Pro which is said to support multi processors while Shayne is on XP home (if my memory is correct). Could be interesting to check which version of XP others successful users have.

Cheers

yes, it's a pretty complex thing anyway - yet it isn't simply 'Scope doesn't run on dualcore'.
Or multiprocessor systems in general - I had no problems at all to install it in an (old) Dual P3 HP workstation, though CWA's instructions from those days suggested to avoid it.

At least someone (quoted above) found out that flowmika's Asus board did NOT run well and he exchanged it for a MSI.

here's a recent quote by geoffd99 (who originally had tons of problems) from the thread 'digital flinching big time'
Just a thought:
I got my CW system almost stable, just a few odd freezes, instant reboots, and such like, then I got a anti spyware program (Spyware Doctor), and a proper (paid for) AVG anti virus, these removed loads of nasty things from my system, which the free anti virus programs had missed, also there is a Microsoft antispyware program which is good and free.

I had been running my PC offline for a while then put the internet back on for convenience. It is new 3Ghz, 1 gig ram, a P2 and a SRB card.

And since running these antispyware / virus programs I have not had a single freeze or problem with any of this, CW runs perfectly, never freezes etc, whatever I do to the system (I used to reboot into a non USB etc system profile, and had done all the tweaks imaginable).
Now CW runs with everything else, internet, firewall, programs on, etc. All fine.

Much to my surprise!
cheers, Tom

I have XP Professional SP2. I also recently tried a few other things like using MSConfig to turn off most services and components, turning my system to barebones. I enabled only Windows Audio and Plug'n'Play. I still got ticks and pops with dualcore. I turned graphics acceleration to off -- no fixes. I tried the Microsoft multiprocessing performance hotfix -- no improvements. The only thing I haven't tried is swapping my video card out for another one. It's an ATi Radeon 8500 AGP 4x 128MB. Would that be causing any issues?

I just don't understand why I'm getting the results I'm getting. Singlecore has always worked consistently.
