Hi everyone,

I have a Luna 2 card and cannot afford to get the luna I/O box but need two more inputs for my recording needs.

Would it be possible to add another soundcard that has A/D conversion to SPDIF out and run the SPDIF out into the Luna 2 SPDIF in for a second two channels of analog recording? (This would give me four channels of analog in rather than two.)

Does anyone have a similar setup?

Thanks.

yep no problem, be it a soundcard or a preamp with spdif output.

The second solution (preamp with spdif output) seems more adapted

Don't forget to set luna to be 'slave' for the incoming signal (samplerate settings)

that said, it may not be the most bright idea to slave to a who_knows_what_blaster_tek_alike thing...
some of those are said to have so sloppy clocks that they end with distortions in the full percent range

my favourite suggestion (in those cases) is a 2nd hand DAT or DCC tape - the tape mechnanics may even be broken (makes it cheaper), but all that stuff was high end once in the days before CD writers, and some still is

Some DATs (like the Fostex at my work) require a tape inside and set to 'rec' mode. In that case a working mechanism is in demand. But AFAIK all Sony and Tascam machines work as AD converters without the need of having a working mechanism.

you're right Sam, it should at least be able to load the tape without immediate spaghetti output
or to be more precise:
I referred to misadjusted and worn out tape heads, which is the fate of all these units one day or another...

cheers, Tom

I once unloaded a spaghetti with some other metal and plastic ingridients  Now the DAT is a good rattler

You know what's brilliant about the Scope platform is virtually nobody realises how versatile it is.I've bought two secondhand luna cards with a 2496 i/o box for under 450 euros.Try and find another secondhand luna 2 they're a steal.

Is it possible to hook up an M-Audio AP 192 with a Luna 2 via SPDIF. If so what connection do I need?

I Suppose it depends if they're on the same computer but I'll tell you anyway,by spdif on the back of the ap192 is on rca connectors whereas the spdif on the lunas are stereo 1/8 inch plugs, the position of the i/o on the plug is in the manual.in the hardware on the routing window there are spdif ins and outs.Just put them in your project, hook them up to the mixer and depending how you're using them, set them up as master or slave in the samplerate settings.
So you need a stereo 1/8 inch plug to 2xRCAs preferably the video ones, yellow and black.I don't think it makes alot of difference.
