Im a long time logic [5.5.1 PC] user and run scope home with an a16 ultra.
I used to run in xtc mode but i sold the 24 chanel desk and replaced with external pres[a great move] and now that i use scope mixer [not in xtc mode] logic is a little flaky.[drops asio when doing anything in scope]

I have been thinking of switching to nuendo but think i will greatly miss logics mix automation, the awsome es2 and the EVb3.
CAN ANYBODY alay my fears and have found replacements for these?

AS nuendo is newer...is it more reliable than logic[with scope]

I brought the BCF200 controller in a bid to controll the scope mixer wile using logic but it is tricky to set up and havent had time to impliment it yet.

I record mainly accoustic music but always use software for synths piano extra percussion loops strings etc.
I use heaps of tracks.
I only use the sampler for playback so i dont care which sampler i use.

system specs:
windos XP[dedicated os] on a
p4 3.0 northwood
intel D875PBZ mobo
2 gig corsair CL2 ram
matrox p650
os: HDD 120 gig 7200 ATA100 8mb
audio: HDD 2x 36 gig 10,000 sata raid 0
samples: HDD 80 gig 7200 ATA 100[too slow]

the flaky behavior will stop completely when you open the task manager and set the priority to "above normal" for logic.

that said, i use cubase sx, and i've got to say i like it better for working with audio. for midi quantization and stock plugins logic is clearly ahead. THAT said, logic seems to need more plugins to sound "right" to me. it's a good thing that i seem to need fewer plugins in sx because sx uses WAY more resources(i do seem to be getting a better sound). a few choice vsts(ok they were freebies, but they're from guys like kjerhuasen, they're pretty good..), and a bunch of scope plugins do my heavy lifting anyway.

nuendo uses the same audio engine. it is very like sx and i would expect similar performance. unless you are doing a lot of multimedia work, i think i'd save money and just use sx.

i always feel like cakewalk products are cheesy, but the new version of sonar looks like a happenin package(i have sonar2 and it looked pretty happenin when i got it, and it IS pretty cool). samplitude is definitely worth getting just for cd mastering. sam HAS to be one of the strongest audio editors....instead of nuendo, i'd get cubase sx and samplitude, you'd spend about the same amount of money(get a crossgrade version of sx. it's half price). keep logic on your computer just because it's cool(and it works now that you set the priority in the task manager)

I'm on Nuendo 1.6 still, and thinking about leaving it. $899 CAD to upgrade to Nuendo 3?!? Are you nuts?!? I could buy a whole new sequencer for that, AND keep Nuendo 1.6...

EDIT: oh yeah. I'm surprised that your 7200rpm disk is too slow for samples. I used 7200 rpm ATA drives for years with ~ 30 tracks playing back and / or recording, both with Nuendo and Vegas, no problems.

Nuendo is stable with SCOPE.

Nuendo is a well put together program. Very professional and fairly easy to get to know. It's dep though and the learning curve can be steep depending on your intended use.

I have a lot of experience with both it (at work) and with Sonar. I choose to use Sonar at home and I prefer it over Nuendo. Especially when you look at Nuendo's price point in comparison. there is nothing that Nuendo does that you can't do in Sonar. At least not when you are talking about music making uses.

Is there a way to set that permanently as otherwise you have to do this everytime you open it don't you?

To make it permanent, just create a .bat file with a text editor, containing the single line:

start /abovenormal "c:program fileslogiclogic551.exe"

And start Logic using that batch file instead. You can substitute /abovenormal for /high if you want high priority.

garyb do you use Mix n Master with samplitude or just samplitude to do all your cd mastering.
is it samplitude7 you're using?

no, i have sam5.
i do use m&m elements, but usually before i get to sam. then i use the tools in sam for final finish work(minor limiting and eq).

Thanks - was trying it last night but didn't really notice a difference (on a P4 3.6 with 2 gigs DDR2 RAM). What does this tweak do exactly? Does it solve the supposed RAM problems (never had them either myself)

It fixes the audio engine overloads warnings that pop up every once in a while. It gives Logic's process higher priority, that way playback doesn't stop when you switch to another application. It's not as necessary on newer machines, but used to be on older machines for smooth operation. It's not a bad idea to run your sequencer in higher priority anyway (Samplitude has something to set priority from within the application.)

I can't seem to get that to work. My path is program files/emagic/logic 5/logic551.exe so obviously I copied/passted the string but changed that part and then saved the text file with a bat extension (Logic.bat) but when I click on it it just opens a command window and nothing else. When I enter this string into the command window it still does nothing so my guess is the syntax is wrong somewhere - too many spaces? slash wrong way round? I don't know much about these things.

Try it with "" instead of "/", and make sure you surround the whole path with "".

notice the example. try no slashes in the path....

Nuendo 3.1 is very good IMO. I don't like Logic's interface so wich one to go for would be easy enough for me...
In 3.1 the integration of external instruments (with delay compensation) added to the external fx is a killer feature. Integration of the Scope's synths and Fxes is now much better if you work in SFP.
Working with a BCF should be no concern if you use the soft scribble strip and the Mackie Emulation mode. I use a Houston and I can even remote external fx units with it...

It all depends if you need the extra video feature set Nuendo proposes, otherwise I would advise the much less expensive Cubase SX 3.1 (it's 3 times cheaper...).
