I strongly consider to buy VDAT. But some people says it eats CPU power, which I only have in limited amounts, since I am on a 1@1.3GHz Celeron with 512MB RAM. How many tracks do you get with what systems, and how many would you guess I could get?

i'd guess around 24 recording track mono 24/44 with what you got.
Lots more for playback. Just be sure to use a dedicated hard drive, C: won't do it at all.
I bought the vdat when i still had my 1ghz Pentium on i815 board and i had about 24 tracks really solid&steady, and 32 tracks if i limited cpu usage by other apps (freezing vsti or samplers tracks)
