I have USB disabled on my ASUS p4p800se.If I add a USB drive for audio will it affect performance?
How does it interfere with PCI etc.

Thanks

Not even spoken of PCI, but for hard disk performance: tranferring files can easily eat 50% of your CPU power. A USB controller is stupid, all work is being done by the driver (read CPU). Firewire is much more efficient.

It's like having a HD without (U)DMA, it would eat your CPU too. Luckily current IDE drivers are much smarter and can do things on their own without bugging the CPU too much.

I haven't had PCI problems, but this board also only maxes out on dsp memory before PCI overload on Subhuman's MasterVerb test.

Ok thanks guys.
Atom could you give is a rundown of different protocols and how they interact with system and how they interfere or help audio recording and sample streaming for systems with more than 1 drive.

Thanks
