i am starting to realise more and more how important the following 6 points are needed for a good mix that transferes well to other setups

1. Acoustically treated room

2. Faithfull monitors sub and amp

4. Quality output (provided by the CW cards i beleive)

5. QuaLITY pROCEROS(FX COMPS BLAH BLAH)

6. knowledge

7 your ears

but 6 and 7 is pointless with out 1-5 being addresed properlly.

i'm geting a bit tired of mixing tracks down that sound good on my sytem and them sounding good on some others but shit on some. (this is including club rigs, cars, hifi's, headphones etc)

I'M WONDERING MAINLY WOT PEOPLES HONEST OPINION FOR POINT 2 IS ? i suppose a couple of sets would be wanted..
Do the main mix on the best pair then check on some shitty ones as well as a couple of pair of headphones.

i was thinking of saving up and getting the mackies hr25 or wotever they are called along with the sub they do.

at the moment i've got the alesis monitor one mk2 and some jpw hifi type speakers.

wot do people think is needed to create a good mix that transfers well?

idealy to be able to get a single set of monitors and a single set of headphones that will yeild the result of.. if it sounds good on them it will everywhere else.

is this posible?

sorry if i have woffled on a bit.

(if any one reads this and reply's. thnx very much in advance)

one good pair of speaks is all that's needed, although it's nice to have others to listen to. the acoustic treatment of the room is important, i usually post these links:

check out the acoustics101 button at the very top.

cool stuff...

i always think the yorkville ysm1p is a great buy on a very nice monitor, but lately i like these:
http://www.abluesky.com/p_s_gb/p3.html

there have been a number monitor discussions, check the search.

well, instead i think that point 1-5 are useless if you don't have knowledge and good ears!
a professionist will be able to make a good mix regardless of the hardware he's using... while an idiot without knowledge or good ears (like me  )could have the greatest studio in the world, but his mix will alsways suck!!

I think point 3 is the most important.
It's that certain indefinable 'je ne sais.... pas'.

An objective ear.

That's a tricky one...especially after you've heard a tune loop a few hundred times...

True to a point yes. but try doing a nice colourfull painting with thick very dark sunglasses.

if you got bullshit monitors how can you possibly hear wot you doing. i doubt a profesional engineer would record a orchestra with an sm57 as well. so the right equipment is very much needed.

but yeah without knowledge all the equpment in the world is pointless..
