hello,
what do you think about it? I thought to sell my PoD Pro and to replace it with a software amp modeler like GAM...

I am pretty sure that Celmo offers a demo version of both GAM and BAM, so try before you buy!
I've never heard anything but praise levelled against the GAM though.

Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron?

No, I don't think so. "Friendly fire" is though
edit: well, it might be...depends if praise can be levelled at something I guess?

I seriously doubt GAM could replace a POD in terms of versatility. GAM does a nice clean and semi-overdrive, but anything past that sounds off.

there are always other distortion effects....

i wouldnt sell the pod for a piece of software... at least you need something to preamp your guitar, and GAM cannot do every sound the pod do...

i would assume that you need a good mic pre anyway(for vocals, etc.). most good mic pres have a high impeadance input. you can even use your pedals with scope effects and the GAM. really, unless there is something really special about the pod, you can easily do without it although you can never have too many different guitar effects....

Did you ever try to run to of Celmos devices after eachother? I do that sometimes with the free device. IT does give a good deal of noise though.

No, I have never tried. Might try it, but I am still sceptical. As a guitarist the procedure is kind of counter-intuitive.
But you are saying it actually sounds convincing? Think metal.
I would like to see a good amp modeler for Scope though.

I have passed my POD through my PSA-1 on the occasional mad moment, turning everything up to '11' in the process. RAWK!
In all honesty, I think that the best software-only solution for guitarists is NI's Guitar Rig. It isn't super cheap, but it's cheaper than my PSA-1 fro example. Try a demo?

I have probably tried every PC-software available for guitar amp modelling. The NI rig has some cool cabinette simulations. You could run a line-out from your amp into it for great results. I still prefere the real deal though

.
BTW. Tried to cascade a couple of GAM's. Sounded horrible.

I quite agree. I got the POD quite recently when a) I had a little extra £££s and b) I found out how remarkably cheap they were!
I like my POD, but the PSA-1 still blows it clean out of the water. I'd highly recommend one to any guitarist. I've still got my original SansAmp Classic stomp box too, which has survived many years' use and a big mug of coffee being poured all over it.

p.s. by the way, by 'real deal' did you mean a non-virtual device, or the actual valve head/cab combo?

use(an analog) distortion pedal.

Yup, I meant an actualyl valve head/combo. Even an AxeTrak gives quite nice results with any amplifier.
I am all for virtual devices and would really like such a device for SFP. I know the Amper exists but I don't think it is realistic enough.

Maybe it'd sound better in
parallel
Although I love GAM I never miss an opportunity to plead for new style presets.

That would be like increasing the master.
The GAM is fine as it is, for clean and mildly saturated sounds.

As a keyboard player who can play bass & guitar 'functionally', the GAM and BAM programs are very convenient and useful for recording and practising. I've heard a Pod, I don't think the GAM is quite as good as a Pod, and neither of them are really as good sounding as a real guitar amp. The GAM is a subset of the Pod's functionality as well, so a direct comparison is not possible. The simulation of a (miked) speaker cabinet is the trickiest part of the chain, I would think, and the Pod has the edge there. If the Pod is to a real guitar amp as a Minimax is to a Minimoog, the GAM and BAM programs would be like a Miniscope. For me, it's quite acceptable, but if guitar is your main instrument, I would keep the Pod.
