I like what you have done so far. Really interesting sounds and wonderful drum pattern.

The only thing I can think of if you want more "drive' is to play with the bass in the mix. The bassline sounds great the way it is - but I guess you could make it more prominent - it would also work at the 4:21 mark where the drums drop out - a slight modification on the accents, longer held notes, a touch of thin distortion or a standard filter sweep leading back into the reintroduction of the drums?

I hear lots of things you *could* do - but it really depends on what you have in your own mind. Did you want more dynamic changes or just flow? - because it works just great the way it is - it flows and is quite hypnotic.

It would be great to have arabic singing on top.

thank you guys

I tried arabic stuff already, Braincell, so far I wasn't lucky to find the perfect fit

Blgrace, maybe you're right and I should leave it as it is, good to know you think it's about ok now
The bass should get a treatment indeed, at least in that break
Oh man, the (Solaris!) bass can go very pronounced if needed, but then it's another element that asks attention

Piddy, thanks for the link, very interesting stuff
I will upload about the same mix one of these days, now with some horn stuff and little addons, let's see where it leads to.
I just have the feeling the song could benefit from some 'identity', some specific 'character'.

cheers, and thanks again

yes. very tasty indeed.
Sounds finished to my ears.
bar this one thing.. the drums at the bigining , i don't now if it's a loop or not but at the end of the fourth bar it sounds sort of loose/out of time, but once the metal snare joins in it's unoticable..(big intake of breath due to long scentence)

When you speak of identity or specific character. i feel it's due to a lack of a hook..

any hows.. briliant.

Hey Huub,
It's time for me to catch up on downloading some music and listening/responding to tracks and you're first on the list!
All the elements of this fit together so well.
A bit different for you but it still as that "Huub signature".
Cool, laid back at times but with a bit of attitude.
Sounds really good on my rig (which I now trust!)

Great track

I like it, nice atmospheric sound. It is very much "background music" which is an awful way to say it but what I mean is that although there are a lot of cool sounds going on, none of them is really asking for attention, none of them come to the foreground because they are all so heavily effected with reverb, delays and whatnot, so the groove is a bit lost. The drums sound great, but I'd loosen up on the highpass filtering because there is no bass left in the drumpart and I can hardly hear the subbass either. I think what this track needs for "drive" is really punchy and deep drums working together with a strong bassline to dictate the groove, although that would sort of take the track out of the "lounge" area and more into triphop I guess.

you're right, very good, I worked hard at bass and reverb part, it's going better already

Wow, just listened to that at home I think you've got an amazing base to build a track on.

Can't wait to hear the finished product...

too much honor
guys, it's getting ok I think, the sound is more clear now, the trumpets are the wanted character (or 'voice'), and the bass...listen to it later, CP you'll be satisfied!
As I think I'm ready for all the finishing details, I'd like to finish it first before uploading.
But knowing myself and my agenda, it will take some time, so I'll put the next almost ready mix on, for the record I will upload later the end mix.
cheers

I uploaded the near-to-end-mix, with trumpets, scratches and fx.
It needs some drum-edits, filtering, etc.
At the end I added the last upload, I took just the first half of the song, to keep it short as possible:-)
Samples and scratches by dj Gerwin
Hope you like it

edit: moment...
doesn't seem to work now, CU tomorrow
still no success, uploading doesn't exchange the old song.
Strange, I know how it works.
Hm, I sent John a pm, see what he says
SOLVED, thanks to John who did some test, which made me realize that a total time of 9 minutes is beyond the limit...dumbo me...thanks John!

New version uploaded
Main differences:
- trumpet samples and scratch elements
from that vivyl disk (made by dj Gerwin)
- bass louder, drums more to the back
- little Rhodes elements as fills
- PsyQ applied

thanks alot everybody, your comments where very usefull, some of your tips I will use when finishing this track (bass sound in break f.i.).
Hope you think the trumpet does fit in the otherwise electronic approach
thanks again, cheers

Loved it. I want to hear more rhythmic variation in the bass though.

you're right, the first thing I'll concentrate on
I hate it to go back to the midi phase, specially if more than one bounce took place...
edit: I upload the same mix with a better mastering balance
(that's why I don't like to put a mix on planetz when it's not (considered as) ready  )

edit 05-01-18: shorter arrangement, lotsa edits
edit 05-01-24: edits (actually mutes) in the bass, better arrangement, better flow (I hope), lotsa details improvements.
edit:05-01-29 I'm getting somewhere
edit 05-02-10: subtle drumedits (filtering, reverse), less mid freqs, stuff like that.
edit: 05-02-16: lost of edits
