Could someone explain the input threshold please and give ballpark figures on threshold?
Does signal need to be hot?Get very low level.
Thanks

Well... The Vinco is modelled on the old 1176 limiter. You can read the excellent 1176 manual here:
Urei 1176LN manual
It discusses approaches to using the outboard unit, as well as technical details. Vinco should be technically very similar, with a "modernized" interface (for example, the Attack knob increases attack time when you turn it clockwise).
Beyond that it's really a matter of taste. I generally push the input meter 'til it never (or rarely ever) crosses the 0 threshold. Then I adjust the output meter until it crosses 0 but never turns the clip light on.
However this is a "tune to taste" thing.
Also weak input levels are never a good thing since you'll hear noise floor pretty quickly going through any compressor.
Cheers,
Johann
