Since ReD Drum seem to be on it's way I thought I would ask around on this topic.

I've been having some trouble sending a steady midi sync through SFP.

For example, I've been trying to drive SB-404 et al using sync sent from Cubase SX but this gives me a very variable sync - the BPM meters are showing all kinds of values. This makes it really hard to use any internal sequencers in the SFP synths and this feels like a blow especially to a device like ReD Drum.

What's your experiences?

(hoping that it's nothing but shear lack of competence on my side ;o)

CubaseSX and sequencer alike can't send any useable clock...

What ever hardware or software i try to sync to it.. I can't sync a SP606 (harware groovebox) or any software using SX or Nuendo midi timing info, but i can sync anything to SFP, including the sp606. SFP timing is solid, use Modular to generate clock if you need to.

Use internal clock from sb404 set to same speed as the sequencer at least.

This is not a sfp issues, as i tried with 4 differents midi interfaces (midiman 2x2, sp606 usb midi, Tascam FW1884 firewire midi interface and sfp midi).

They all give crapy results from any sequencer. Horrible! Unusable!

One's wondering how come an old protocol like midi that is so simple can't be implemented correctly.

I searched a bit and came to conclusion that anything that use a PC clock (windows clock for that matter), have extremely bad precision.

I could be wrong, but it seem it's windows clock that is not precise like it should.

that's why I dare not to buy a midi controller,still I'm despairingly looking for one, could you please tell me which midi controller that does really work with creamware stuffs, thanks in advance and cheers..
