first "final mix".....

this is a cut that i've engineered for the album "edge of catastrophy" by the artist Devestata(Dave Williams), a local jazz trumpeter/hip hop producer. Dave has teamed up with several Long Beach folk artists to do hip hop verions of some of their songs. this is one, maybe i'll post another....

anyway, fun sessions....

That's some wild , wacky, pretty weird stuff!

The production is great, I'm not crazy about the actual song, not really my kind of thing. It's well done, just not my taste...

not my usual either. i enjoyed engineering it though and i suspect it'll also be an unusual album...strange the way culture expresses itself....

oh, i guess the gear works anyway.....

and i forgot to BIG UP Mehdi for his delay(still talking at the end of this cut)! this was one of the beta versions, i never did get the final version, but hearing how many sold, i wish that i would have bought it. REALLY nice device that has a lot of thought and work in it!(sounds good too!)

Sounds cool and relaxed, it must had been a great session.

The delay/pitch work on the drop vocal line is a very well working with all those scratch noises and riffs.

I was originally going to say, "great track, but not quite to my taste" but after listening to it a few times it's really grown on me!

The only criticism is that it's perhaps a touch long...I'm not sure if the (very quiet) end 20 seconds adds very much to it.

What's the subtle background sound e.g. at 1:10 when the lady starts singing (..."big fat tree...")? Is it traffic perhaps?

Wow, I really like this alot, its not my every day listening material, but this is some cool out there jazz hiphop almost early tribe called quest type stuff. I especially like the way the scratch was treated, sounds great on my end.

The mood sort of reminds me of Meat Beat Manifesto's "Subliminal Sandwich". I think this would be a lot more interesting if you put in lots of electronic sounds and a dub regggae beat. I understand that might not be what the artist wanted you to do.

braincell, that's what remixes are for

gary, excellent work! definately beef the kick and low end up a bit...the horns and vocal are definately on top but it feels a little shallow underneath that...(hihats might be a tiny bit too loud too in contrast to the current weight of the beats).
