With new chipests 915 and 925 intel now only supports 3 PCI devices, so in the future there's no more PCI support, what are we going to do?

the next is pci-X slot. cw will made cards for this pci-x slot. old cards will die one day
But that will take another 5 years.

PCI-X probably will never become a mainstream interface because it requires a controller per slot and is expensive to implement (typically its only found on server motherboards for the PC world).

PCI-Express is the replacement for PCI-32.

yeah, the announcement makes perfect sense - what do you need a PCI slot for ?
Seriously, most manufacturers already prefer an USB or FireWire layout - and I really suspect we won't see any new generation of (Scope) cards
The current cards run in enough gear to be available (and useful) for years.

my 2 cents, Tom

yeah, I actually WORK at Intel, and their current big campaigns are PCI-x and WiMax. I figure this is about a 2-3 year cycle, and then it'll probably some sort of bus-hubs for USB, firewire, bluetooth, wi-fi, wi-max, whatever, etc. and a further drive for handheld and tablet PC configurations.

Maybe even the desktop only has about 5 years left?

PCI-X is fully backwards compatible.

hehe, this one is too easy to overcome.

first of all: it not just CW that is dependant on PCI technology, and hence (just look to ISA) its gonna be around for quite some time.

point two; fortunatly, you can still use a CW card linked to any pc u want. u can use midi, adat, dig or whatever, DSP power still will be the same. so in 25 years, as long as your personal computer is up and running, you can still enjoy the power of scope no matter how many mflops or mips your new HOST machine can brag about.

best of all, u can still enjoy SFP as your routing, synth and effects master, and use your PCI-X3 or whatever will pop up, as a CPU master.

oh, and one more thing; your new PC could even maybe do 2000 channels of reverb, so your not stuck at like 10 or so. so we should all be stars in a short while.

Is that for real Piddi?
Sounds too good to be true.

it's true.
