Hi all,

Just curious what some of your methods are for keeping your files safe, do you back up your entire /Scope directory? or do you just back up your .pro, .xtc /presets /devices etc etc.

I am trying to basically just decide what the best way to back up all my CW files are, obviously this would have to include all, presets, modular, devices.

But for me I usually create a project folder where everything goes that not directly related to /scope folder, EG: when I make a new track I make a sunfolder for the project name, then inside that folder it looks something like:

- Project Folder
- NPR FIles (Nuendo)
- Scope
- Edits
- Samples
- Audio

I do this at the start of every project so, would I be better off making a folder in the Scope root that is used for all of my .pro files instead of keeping them attached to projects.

Also approx, how large is the entire /scope install, would it best to zip the root and then burn it to disk. And last but not least, do you use a program like wavelab for back ups or Nero/Easy CD providing your on PC

Any info is appreciated, just trying to get an idea of the most effective ways to back up scope files.

I use the included Windows Backup utility, it's all you need. It doesn't burn CDs though. If you need a more sofisticated backing solution, look at PowerQuest Drive Image. Drive Image can create a whole image of your drive and restore it without having to use Windows.

What's compression like? I don't like to think about fitting all those gigabytes of audio onto a bunch of CDROMS..

I don't know the compression ratios for any of two applications that I mentioned, but I think PowerQuest has a better one. You should check their website. The Backup utility however has an option though that allows you to save system state (like the registry etc).

I set my projects up like you. I have a folder with the project name and inside I have absolutely everything related to that project i.e.
Project folder/Audio
Samples
SX files
.pro files
etc, etc
This I then zip and keep on a non OS hard drive. If I need more space it'll still fit on a CD. Then if I have to reinstall, or reformat, everything is one place

I use Drive Image. I can make an exact copy of an entire partition of my audio HD. In this partition I copy the projects and presets used in every work.
The Drive Image 2002 (6.0 version) works really good for me.
After this backup I burn the files in a blank DVD. My projects are about 12-14 Gb and I can save all data in 2 DVD.
