Well yeap I have been inquiring about a few synths as of late, I am so close to deciding on what direction to go, I really enjoyed the pro phat demo john had sent me, but its a tough one to choose from since I already have the Minimax, Pro One, Prodyssy, Access Virus and all other CW and all stock VA CW synths aswell as VSTi's version of Pro53.

So I am also curious about six string, since there is no demo available at the moment (maybe a call to CW?) but for any one who has this synth can ya tell me a few bits..

- Can this synth replicate a nylon sound as well as an electrical sound?

- As far as programing to get an authentic feel is this easy to achieve or a nightmare?

- DSP usage, light or heavy?

- Is all playing single notes like a stadard synth or is there some sort of chord mode?

- Can it create a strum sound forward/reverse, I am really just curious how involved you can get to making the playing sound authentic.

- I do electronic dance music, I am really looking for a simple semi live (can be sequenced sounding at times) nylon string sound, just to be able to throw some guitar parts into the mix when I need them, I could always just use samples but I like having a dedicated synth for certain tasks and dont mind helping to support the work CW does, so is this synth decent for such a use or more geared towards a more rock/jass/acoustic style?

Thats my basics, I ask because I purchase Wizoo's VG and let me just say that VST is a total waste, I mean yea its sample based so it can sound like a real instrument, but you are so confined in what you can do with it, its either play there patterns and use there chord progressions or nothing, just didnt do it for me.

listen to Jean-Phillipe Rykiels six-string demos

I've heard that the six-string does som really interesting pads and other non-guitar like sounds. I've never heard any of these though, but I'd really like to hear the six-string taken to the extreme because of my interest in non-VA synthesis which has been, well shall we just say an un-noticed child on our beloved scope-platform (Flexor not included).

Anyways, does anyone have a few demos of some extreme six-string samples?

Well, here's my opinion. The actual sounds Six-String can create sound awesome. Very sweet and clean, although you can dirty it up with the amps (which are OK, but I like Alien Connections' Revalver better). The sound algorithms sound great though. But there's one problem: they forgot to take into account that you're supposed to be playing multiple notes on six strings. They simply did the normal 1-voice, 2-voice, 3-voice, etc. What this means is that when you're holding a note and switching to the note right next to it, 1-voice will mute the original note like on a guitar, but you can't play any other notes like a chord strum. When you're in polyphonic mode, notes that are near each other on the fretboard do NOT mute each other, which gives you a lot of unwanted notes lingering, especially if you're running it through an amp. It acts more like a harp.

You can sort of get around that by having a short release and a long decay, but it's a bit difficult.

They should have included "guitar mode" -- have keygroup muting for certain areas corresponding to the strings on the guitar. But they didn't.

Otherwise, it's really good! The sounds are wonderful.

I think that a "guitar mode" is not so easy to make, as on the guitar the same note can be picked in different places and different strings...

But a thing that is unique in Six String is the pitch envelope that is related only to the single note you play with that certain velocity.

You can write in the midi part a note equal to another one and overlapping it, but with a different velocity, such to trigger the pitch envelope....and (oh marvel!) you can have the typical bent note over the fixed one that is so common in guitar....the effect is perfect, and afaik nothing like this can be obtained on any other midi plug!

I just got SixString and am no great guitar player - just some bass - but am very impressed.

I have a few plucked string VSTis both modelled and sampled and they just are blown away by SixString.

The way the notes can sound reasonably pure by themselves and then distort into a beautiful grinding mess as a chord is just bliss

The acoustic sounds are sweet and pure, the electric ones (especially through Celmo's GAM) are nasty as hell. Ethnic sounds and unusual pads are there two, but I need more time to tweak...

I certainly can't see myself using this on every track, but when I need something mean I know where to go

My other plucked string VSTis have now shuffled backwards in great embarassment...

what's the DSP usage like with the six string?

Pretty heavy. I wouldn't want to try to run it on a Luna that's for sure. But on my PulsarII, recording the output as audio there's no problems.
