Hi Everybody,
My old Quad 405 Power Amps said goodbye...
I think I need to buy a new one. Any advice of wich new powers amps? I saw some Phonic, and Yamaha gear in some shops...
My monitors are Yamaha Ns10 and Tannoy System 10.

Thanks in advance

Best Regards

I've always been fond of Hafler myself. Everyone will have their own personal fav.

Stay away from anything with a fan - that's about the best piece of advice I can give.

I don't fear the amp with a fan. Your computer has a fan and should be in a 'machine room' (ideally) or closet away from your listening area. Put the amp in the same location. Amps that put out a lot of power tend to either have fans or a very high price tag (or both) And you want a lot of power if you plan on getting another solid state amp. Solid state brands I'd look at include Crest, QSC, Lab Grupen, Hot House, Hafler, etc. Or go the other way and get a pair of used Quad 22s (less wattage than the 405 but they are 'tube [valve] watts' which - to my ears at least - seem subjectively louder thab solid state watts).

Why not just get the 405 repaired? I've heard good things about that amp & understand that Acoustical has parts for it.
