First time for me to post some music and it doesn't have anything to do with SFP. It's six year old too. That feels a bit strange, but the reason for posting this is because of a discussion about gamelan music in the UberPlastic Demo track thread.

It is ambient music, based on gamelan music. It's not a traditional piece, nor are the instruments authentic anymore. I've also done some original gamelan pieces, but these are on unlabeled minidiscs, which I have tons of, so you'll probably understand the reason why I have choosen for this piece

The sounds used are based on original gamelan instruments that I modelled with my Yamaha SY99 (FM synth powerhouse). The sounds are made with additive techniques and a touch of FM. The only parameters that I have changed for this piece are the amplitude envelopes of the partials of sounds. All sounds are microtuned the same as real gamelan instruments. The few occurances of drums are from Rebirth.

I hope you'll enjoy listening and I promise that I'll post some real SFP relateed material soon

Cheers,
Vincent

i especially like the section between (around) 2-minutes to 3-minutes, very trippy gamelan counter melodies that i love.

i am fortunate to be surrounded by great gamelan ensembles and from two different "schools". the two major universities in vancouver have performing gamelan ensembles, one from the Balinese school, the other from the Javanese.

have you listened to Cliff Martinez' score for "Solaris"?... some very delicate use of gamelan in there, it's very beautiful (IMHO).
