sure, :D

And what is transparency?
Is there some sort of defintion in audioworld?

I would only devide compressors into two types:
->colouring compressors - like the vintage stuff, tubes, etc....

->uncoloured compressors - like digital loudness maximizers, that try to reach a higher average level on a fixed headroom/digital media (like a CD), without much altering in sound.

I guess "transparency" in this thread is used as synonym for an uncoloured compressor.

h all,

As i can see, things are going on, with the same results !!!

In fact at the beginning of this thread, i was tempted to answer Manu's question about our "definition" of transparency ... And there is a lot to say : harmonics, pumping effect, heard and mesured sensations, headroom and so on ...

But in fact i now realize that i was right not to begin arguing in this king of thread, where nothing positive come out !!!

perhaps this will be discuss in a better and quieter thread, i hope so, this could be interesting comparing other developpers and users vision,

cheers
olive

well, if that is something we can agree on, a compressor that, to a certain degree, looks like a reincarnation of certain vintage gear and does even hints the observer by displaying a tube on the faceplate that tube technology is involved, would be expected to add colourization to the signal, and transparency would be a rather undesired effect when using it, or am I wrong here?

I know, olive, since you poined out, that the 660 is not a recreation of the fairchild unit. the question would be, hence, if you agree with hifibooms definition above, or if you would have a better one. (I'm afraid it's something like, well, generally... but, then, it's a bit more complicated, since..... :) )

(the only vicious question to olive would be why a unit suggesting to be sound colouring by its sheer look is more a transparent one instead. but I would never ask it :). and in the end, the effect you want to achieve as well as the ease of use decides which type of device to use.)

but since I'm a damn noob to compression (among other things), a thread focussing on the topic itself is welcome for me. and I would value your input here, olive. and I think indeed it was wise enough not to jump in until now :)

I'm sorry Bill3107, but there IS a strong relationship between manu and Das.
read along :-)

In the meantime I got threatened by manu with lawyal actions, via pm.
He wants to offer Eric 'thousands of euros' to sue me, as he and Eric are very close, bussinesslike as wel as personally (he owns the building which houses the DAS studio).
His lawyer is the same guy as the one Eric used when he threatened MCCY with lawyal actions.

In big triumph he also let's me know that he googled my physical adres.
Not a big secret anyway, but the frustrated powerplay is identical to that of Eric in the past

He also keeps on running down on Wolf, in several pms, who is said to make all the same errors regarding phase correlation, and who has 'small knowledge'.
They, manu/eric, 'found a lot of big bugs in three Wolf plugs', and they 'can prove it with tests'.
If I want he will change the subject of this thread to 'What's wrong with Wolf's devices', I have no idea what's behind this move again :-)

Oh yeah, I'm asked to change my nick to 'FUCKINGBIRD'

Looks a bit like 'Eric is dead, long live the new Eric', or something :-D

to be honest, fuckingbird is actually the nicest term i ever heard including the "fuck" word!

lets just chill and save some energy to handle the next thread (2/2). it will hopefully be the last, as the title would suggest. wonder whos gonna get it this time.

I'd prefer if you would all just chill and waste no energy on another thread like that, as well as on PMs. nobody is doing anybody else any favour...
stop this while you can. I'm dead serious about that.

DAS should thank you guys for the free advertisement.

Notice the amount of views?

The amount of replies?

They already had some very good devices, but their marketing strategy was quite unique.

Once they figured out how to keep a thread alive, there was ne need for advertising.

Besides, the old motto of bad news, is better than no news, certainly applies here.

These inflamed threads have probably done more to sell their devices than any marketing campaign.

As long as devices as good as DynaPara keep being made, I don't care if these guys have sex with farm animals on French talk shows.

Possibly, but their bad-mouthing and rude attitude ruined their reputation in the eyes of many -including mine- , and I'm sure they lost many potential customers in the process -including me. Apolologies are still hoped for though, even after all those months, but that would be admitting they made mistakes in the first place...

I think Olive is doing a fine job at keeping cool though, I salute this!

... as for manu... So childish an attitude deserves no comment...

I have been following this thread from the beggining, and have also read the old thread. :o
All I have to say is that I totally agree with scope4live.
I think if no one from here on and in the future, replies to any of these kinds of threads, that it would be the best thing to do.
No discussion, no remarks , no argument, no law suites,no bad advertising.

If like a new device ( wolf spacef mccy das )and like the sound, I don't care what test and figures say.
It's up to me and my ears if I think the product is good or not, I don't need someone to tell me or prouve to me otherwise. If this were the case I would not be using Creamware products at all and follow advise from others who use other stuff.

So lets stop here and spend more time witing music. 8)

it took a while befor we got clear that the thread [/i]was fake.
It was obviously a one-two between manu and Eric.
When manu then saw there was no way back for him, he started to repeat those old piracy accusations.
It's hard to organise a Cordon Sanitaire on an internet forum, and I actually think the thread developed rather tight and to the point :-)
All is clear now.

I'd say -but that's not my meal- Olive should've done something, as also me doesn't think the thread is in DAS' advantage.

I don't know how it is with you guys, but I don't like to be fooled.
We got that right now, and I think it's only good :-)

Unless it's 1 april :-D
