Please guys,
Of course all this Bombfactory, UAD and Powercore stuff is great... But you wouldn´t want to have a 1176 or LA-2A on every channel... Just imagine how it would be to have a UREI-Console....IMO that wouldn´t sound right. But nonetheless their stuff rocks and yes, depending on your front-end it will gain the quality of your recordings more or less.
I regard the CW system more as a stand-alone mixer that gives you the possibility to hook up external gear and where you have EQ, compressors and many other tools like the EARLYFIRST verbs, DSPDEV or TIMEWORKS plugs that really do have a high quality. Did some of you ever compare the Dir-X versions of the Timeworks plugs to the "hardware" versions of our platform?? The Dir-X plugs don´t even come close the CW versions. It´s not only processing power!
But I think we shouldn´t get sarcastic when someone demands the Bombfactory on our platform or the M5000 compressors, because those tools belong to the "normal" production enviroment. And we all want to have them... And yes there certainly were some issues whith compatibilty and the way CW promotes their products.....but when you look at "Digi-001" you´ll see that that card is as picky as our card, concerning MB and chipset. And everyone who has ever worked whith the "Protools" thing knows that their OS isn´t free of bugs.
This platform has it´s quality and I prefer it over the 02R or Ramsa, because of the possibilities to "alter" the sound whithout necessarily having to go extern. I´m not bitching about those consoles because you get good pre-amps and converters and EQs whith the Ramsa and whith the 02R you can get additional hardware plugs like the Finalizer or Apogee converters
But after all I still think, that what our platform really needs are more plugs from 3rd parties to gain reputation in the pro world... Just look at "Soundscape" they do only have a hand-full of Pro-plugs... and that system is really regarded as a very stable recording and mixing platform, whith tons of happy users. Their only concern is not having enough Plugs and their system lacks a little bit of processing power...
Regards,
Sunshine
