I agree that voltage values are purely indicative since they depend on impedence match, but it's always linear values besides logarithmic values... the curve shape/line angle is the same...

well, that might be one of those times that a limiter is helpful. the right mic and pre and a great room would probably still make the limiter unneeded, especially if the performer was aware of mic technique. if one is recording a lunatic or an animal(for some reason mental illness is often seen as cool

), a limiter is probably a must but only to prevent overloads, not for "the sound". "the sound" is more properly and easily applied after.

Just need to know one more thing, to have a better picture of compressors.
What about response time (or latency), analog vs digital?

Sorry, you're around AC levels... Things can become rather complex in freq (and time) domain(s).
I still was around "static" values... The first chart is pratically mono-dimensional...
