The Virus sounds like an old arcade video game to me (I tried of course), those YM sound chips. Even VST synth sounds better.
(This is not due to the card, it is due to the algorythms used to produced the sound, I think DSP cards can have the same sound if the same algorythms are used)
The sound is not interesting and the possibilities are limited : few osc few lfo (a little synth), and I'm not the only one.
But this is the beginning of a new time for this card, synth developement, buisness trouble for CW.
Are there other synths in progress on this plateform ?

It is probably even a great synth, but hardly to imagine that it cannot be replaced by a well chosen set of SFP tools, as those constant '... but we need a Virus on SFP...' complaints may suggest.
Maybe the point is, that if we had Virus, more new users would think SFP as competitive platform, as everybody knows Virus. Now they can read "SFP has Modular, Minimax etc" but don't have any glue what they are. Despite the marketing stuff on cw site. And our word here.

I don't understand the comment about the virus sounding like an old arcade game. It sounds very deep. I have never heard a hardware physical modeling synthesizer that I don't like. Computer based synthesizers however are generally not as good. I am unhappy with the sound of CW synthesizers. I gather the Minimax is one of the few exceptions but you have to pay a lot extra for that on top of the outrageous price for their cards... grrrrrr!

I'm sorry but the Virus sounds fluffy and lame... perfect for Ibiza trance but not much else IMHO.

I just dont get it. when u say $830 is an outragous price for a pulsar 2, including a bunch of effets an synths, and SFP, to what are u comparing? it IS more expencive than many other cards, but higher cost doesnt make a price outrageous?
