for bipolar signal just use 6db lopass almost closed (cutoff close to 0Hz). this works for unipolar too.
advantage is 1U module, disadvantage is lack of separate attack and release controls

thanks for picking up on my slack on keeping this "new ideas for pulsar modular" going" castol, (not to mention virtually hijacking the entire modular area   ).
I've been really busy on new material lately not to mention work and such. it is cool that CW is aware of the thread. It will be great to see some of our ideas in Mod3 . . .

hey michu,

cool idea, i would have never thought of using an audio filter on data. will have to play with this, cause smooth control is a nice feature.

re: modular hijacking...heh, yah i sort of felt the same way

but now i've settled in somewhat, slowed down. other things have come up, and well. i'm kind of in hiatus. doing the csound thing, and building a webpage (which will have some actual musics on it it!). haven't done much of anything with the modular for awhile.

well, i did try and make something aproximating granular synthesis...but it didn't work out so great.

best.

just tried out your idea michu. quite a difference! but, i don't think filters work unipolarly though (if so the control would be limited to a range of 0-63 or 64), i would have to test this out to find out though.

thanks for the neat tip!

castol,

if you will look at pic of my compressor you will see 6db hipass after envfollower (sorry started it under 3.01  ). i didn't notice any nasty limiting. i guess that 0-127 and -64-64 units are rather symbolic.
try examining signal with wavetools or winscope. this is very helpful for me.

cheers

don't know if someone already thought about this, but a little button to "Minimize" a module and gain some working space may be useful

another one to add to my "oscillator list":

How about further pseudo-ROM-chip support?

The Waldorph Wavetable and Ben's Roland JD800 sample pool are great and all, but I would sure like to have the Lightwave tables spliced into Modular 3 . . .

well, here's some good news:

The lightwave oscillators as well as the
lightwave filters (actually one half of the latter makes a new multimode filter) will be part of the next modular release.

(jus' beleave it: I've finished the DSP modules a fortnight ago)

Fantastic news. Thanks for letting us know ! version 3 looks like it's starting to shape up as something special. I'd beg for more info, but . . .

Very Very cool!

Since Lightwave and prisma are actually my two best synths, i think i'll love the new Mod3 !!!

thanks for the info enumeteratus -

very good indeed!

do I smell another Mod contest when the update is out? sniff sniff, sniff.

just tossing ideas out...

how about a module which you could set a audio level input threshold whereby a gate signal was released?

purty simple, but could be put to intricate uses.

i'm all for some better delay modules as well, smoothly modulatable delay times via mod input and manual control would be a must!

also, an allpass filter so we could construct our own reverbs. maybe a simple comb delay module, again with a modulatable delay time.

thanks.

Couple more things I've been meaning to suggest for a while, both more UI related than synthesis related.
Sorry if they've already been suggested elsewhere.

1.) The ability to copy & paste multiple modules. It would be great to be able to click-select a number of modules simultaneously and copy them in their entirety, with cabling attached, both within the same modular patch, and alsi into another modular patch.
When I was creating the Jaded800 patch I had to recreate the same 'tone' structure of 15+ modules 4 times - multi-copy and paste would have made my life a lot easier! It would also be useful for (eg) copying a working sequencer patching from one patch into another.

2.) An 'upgrade this patch' option. This is really a 2-fold request. Firstly, since SFP3.1 Mod2 patches make use of the new preset list functionality (including the very useful compare function) and the faster preset loading - wouldn't it be great to be able to convert all those old patches to take advantage of this? Dream on, I know.

Secondly, occasionally, some of the modular modules are upgraded, due to a bugfix, optimisation, etc. But unless you go through each of your patches one by one and replace the old copy of the module with the new one, I don't think old patches will take advantage of the new modules. I'd love it if, when you open a patch which uses an old version of a module, the patch would tell you that a newer version of the module existed, and offer to replace it for you. For a start, CW are often not very forthcoming in telling us which modules have been updated, so we wouldn't even know ourselves if we should upgrade a particular module.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but working on the idea of wrapping up modules, that may infringe on the fact that you have to pay for the modular s/w. What about wrapping up the modules inside of the modular synth frame then being able to patch in those modules together, It's like a modular synth inside a bigger modular synth,
you could go on couldn't ya ?

just a thought

I’ve just tried the Absynth from NI and was powerfully impressed by it’s quality and most of all, it’s sounds innovation. I don’t know how to put it clear in terms of technology, but I would like modules of the like in our Modular Synthesisers.

One of the most fascinating things is the easy of use and quickness you can achieve working with Absynth. I think Creamware Modular is still unnecessarily complicated, fantastic yes, but a bit complicated for most users. Just look at this forum, there are few people in here for this very reason. I think there are many other ways to go and work, other than adding modules the way we do. The main problem is the learning curve, the need for learning all the possibilities of connection between modules. I know is fascinating and I love it too! It’s a matter of time. I wish I had much more spare time to learn everything from our Modular.

I've owned Absynth for a while now but have to say that IMHO putting ModV2 devices together is no more complex than tweaking the envelope points and setting up the modulation in Absynth. In fact I find modifying the LFO routings in Absynth incredibly tedious. But it is a great synth which nothing on the SFP platform comes near to matching in its chosen area.

Where I feel ModV2 falls down is that it lacks the modern ergonomic functions of most new synths and has only the "bread and potatoes" operation.

The two leading NI synths - Reaktor and Absynth - have many features sorely lacking in the ModularV2.

I don't mind complexity, just give me options !
