
I understand what you are saying its just I have a different take on it - I think that look at platforms that allow free development gain popularity in a different way - I guess that Linux is the most extreme example here. You are right though - the quality of Mac stuff I believe is one of the things that has kept it alive despite a smaller market share and also the DSP card market is very different from the desk top computer market so in someways these comparisions may be irrelevant.
