Re: Daw Controllers
Sounds very nice and fast way of controlling many devices.
Re: Daw Controllers
Think of it as having a fully customizable Mackie mode controller. With my BCF2000, I was amazed how in Mackie mode, it mapped all the controls of my VSTs and DAW on-the-fly, but there was no way to modify those mappings. If I wanted customization, I needed to switch back to MIDI mode. Ultimately, it was easier to use the mouse than to flip through pages of controls that had no logical ordering, so I stopped using it. The Nocturn auto-map mode starts out the same. It just maps the controls in the order it receives them from the plug-in. If it didn't allow for customization, I would've never bought it. What everybody that is thinking about getting the Nocturn needs to know is that you can modify the auto-map for a plug-in and save it as the default such that it gets loaded everytime you load the plug-in in your DAW. Even better, you can clear the entire mapping and learn all the controls from scratch - adding an unlimited number of pages (with 17 controls per page). Then you can set the min/max/step values of each control. These terms are deceiving because , it only cares about the difference between min and max values to determine the resolution. Meaning that the range is always from minimum to maximum. For example, in MiniMax the oscillator shape knob only needs a small difference between min and max values so you don't have to twist the knob very far for it to change. This goes for buttons also. For $98 this controller is definitely the best bang for the buck!FrancisHarmany wrote:Sounds very nice and fast way of controlling many devices.

If the budget can stretch to it, check out the Zero SL MkII. 16 knobs[8 endless rotaries], 8 faders, 32 buttons, transport, onboard LED. 2 USB ports[1 hardware port] & 1 MIDI in/thro/out + I MIDI out. Drumpads, which can be assigned to key & keystring commands, footswitch and expression control pedal support. You can run Automap on the USB port to your host and the MIDI in/out to wherever you want, Scope, hardware, back into the host. Any assignment in MIDI mode can be routed to any of the ports, even within the same template. Toggle between Automap and normal MIDI controller mode at the press of one button. 32 templates for MIDI mode selectable with Speed Dial. Automap Pro, which is free with the MkII, supports multiple devices, drag and drop, key commands. MkII can also be used without the compooter as standalone with the power supply.FrancisHarmany wrote:It indeed sounds very usable. I'm getting one
