Xcite looks awesome, but for someone like me that already has 23 DSP's, and plenty of modules that I never even use, it may not be practical.

HOWEVER, for the newcomer market - where I already hear people talking about 'that Scope thing', it will probably be worth it.

I like the concept of it but they could have started with a slimmed down version of it. It's good for new people like you said. The problem is the market is flooded with all kinds of hardware and software.

I agree.

Just gotta remember that the market isn't necessarily flooded with Scope-like devices/software. The other DSP systems out there are not the same thing, so the market may get confused.

We'll see....I AM hearing a buzz...

But customers don't know this and sales people are often ignorant. These days a lot of people are not even using a sales person.

Seems like fun. It's getting way too easy to make ambient music. I don't like having competition.

Mine's due on Thursday morning according to an email from UPS.
Must say, the VIP upgrade price was amazing.

Been preparing for it since Saturday, by installing Cubase 4.
Oh it is so different from 32/5.1 - what a learning curve.
I expect to be asking lots of Cubase 4 questions with regards to Scope so sharpen your pen Braincell. :)

Anyway, back to Omnisphere.
I'm looking forward to it having had so much pleasure from Atmosphere.

I may keep Atmosphere installed too, just as a smaller, lower CPU eating support synth.

I agree that it becomes easier to put a one fingered track together, but hey, if you enjoy it, why not?

Why? No fingers? How do you play?

err, knowing you Stardust, it may be prudent not to answer that one.

Maybe Omnisphere is less hard on CPU but it asks for a minimum of 2 G of RAM!!
Now How the heck am I to use this one in Logic 5.5.1 with its 1 G limit bug.....? No, I won't switch to SX or anything else...... VST host routed back to Logic through Scope maybe? :(

So much for Apple always being better.

Paul is using a version of Logic that obviously predates Apple, and I suspect he's on windows to boot (since he's still using the final windows version #).

Btw Paul, this thread may interest you (thought it might not help you run Omnisphere in Logic):

Thanks for the thread, Valis. I had read that long ago. The thing is, I won't be able to run Ominsphere in Logic with this solution because if Windows only sees 1 G of Ram I will probably be told that I exceed memory just by loading a sound in Omnisphere. It happened to me with by Romplers. The only solution I see is to maybe get another PC and use it as an FX and VST rack and feed them to Logic through FXTeleport.

Any thoughts?

By the way, Logic for PC isn't obsolete to my eyes, just limited...

Just for the record, that link isn't showing a method of limiting Xp to 1Gb, it's limiting applications that run within Xp to 1Gb. So no, it probably wont' allow you to run Omnisphere as a vsti in Logic 5.51 (which I mentioned above) but it can help you give Logic some legs by upping your total system ram to 2Gb so Logic itself can actually be allocated a full 1Gb. Then run Omnisphere standalone on a separate machine (which I think you mentioned on the previous page?) I don't know about you, but for me I found it increasingly more difficult to use 5.51 with modern plugins over the years to the point where I've currently divested my efforts: between bidule on my Scope PC, Ableton & other apps on the laptop and switching between Reaper in Windows and Logic 8 on OSX for my main DAW... I miss the simplicity of 5.51 but with my primary machine having 8 cores and 8Gb of ram it's just too old now. Of course the alternative is just to stick with a set of software tools that you know inside & out and stick with 5.51 until your grandkids make fun of you :D

Not sure if non-owners can access this page but if so, have a look at the overview video for more info on Omnisphere

I love Eric P. and anything he makes I am interested in.
But once again I am afraid I have to sit this one out again.
Another problem w/ native apps. that developers do not like to acknowledge or discuss..........The painful wait for patches to load.

Maybe with a new protocol like VPT instead of VST, things might change. Virtual Performers Technology.

I know this Dog Will Hunt, but only where load times are tolerated.
Sadly Solaris is not used live as it's 900+ parameters makes loading unnaccepatable, so I used Prowave for snappier loads.

New ADI chips will solve this, but even Quad's w/ Raptors and OCZ Flex DDRIII won't save Omnisphere.

Damn Pity, as it sounds nice, but my Bro here is pissed, for he bought it because he was told it would load faster than Atmosphere......another reason why I prefer DSP and honest statements from developers I trust and admire.

Live work..........NOT.
Recording..........Yepp........but go have a cup of coffee and come back.

I tend to believe JBowen as he is honest, and wouldn't be caught dead as a generic VST developer, at least not for a few more years.

JB assured before I sent my check to him that load times are a non issue in hardware Solaris, so since the same ADI's will be in XITE-1 I believe it's safe to assume the same performance could be expected.

Otherwise I just threw 8 Large out of the window, and I will jump right behind it. The day I lose faith in Scope or JBowen's abilities, ....life will be meaningless.

One of my main reasons I never bought VST based synths was the sound of the upper and lower registers. Even today with a great little synth called Rapture, it's imperfections are quite noticable.

On a Bowen synth the upper and lower registers are free of artifacts. And it's filters are far beyond the thrown together marketed / packaged lengthy explanations of VST synths.
http://www.planetz.com/forums/download/file.php?id=3786

This is lower and mid range filter sweeps of a CS80 Super BPF sound called Brass 4 on a CS80. Solaris sounds better as I have mixed in a pair of MMOSC Saw's to add the CEM LP to fatten up a 4 Osc. preset. It also demonstrates by using the resonance of the 2 seperate EG's with different descending patterns that follow each other. I can't even find a VST synth or Filter for that matter that can compare.

But Omnisphere and Atmosphere are pad machines made for the mid range area, and Eric P. knows how to get the most out of this by knowing that most pads are created in the mid range, avoiding the inherent weakness of VST / Native synths. It's too bad that it loads presets at a snails pace though. Otherwise, it is another incredible idea, where he will surely make bank again.

Omnisphere is great fun. The arpeggiator and groovelock are cool for the 'key-n-hold' crowd, but obviously has lots of potential with moving chord patterns and scale-lines.

It tracks well via my MIDI guitar hosted inside Samplitude.

It IS CPU hungry, and patches take a while to load. It feels more like a sampler.

So far I wish it had more baseline samples such as horns, etc. instead of all the sound-design approach, but this factor is probably what it's designed for - as a first go-to sound design, scoring, etc. tool.

Sounds are good quality overall with lots of layering potential, but they DO lack that extra 'beef' that the Scope DSP provides, and I'm working on adding in filters and such to draw some life out of them.

So far, so good. It just may set new trends in the industry.

The 'Groove lock' (TM) feature sounds pretty much like a quantize feature that's been floating around in sequencer apps for years, but I'm sure it's got something new thrown into the equation as well. I'd be interested to hear what it is. Support for a new format?

'Modulatable Hard Sync' is quite an interesting feature.
