after rereading this thread, i see that i am confused as to exactly what is happening. something is very wrong. this could be related to some incompatibility with a p1 and the kt800, but i haven't seen this kind of problem with any chipset, not even an ati.
since i don't have a clear picture of the computer, it's hard to say what's going on with this thing. possibly something have been corrupted in software and either a few programs(maybe windows) reinstalled over the top of the old installs(without uninstalling) might replace any bad files, or maybe the hardware itself is damaged(i don't think so, there'd likely be an error message in that case). there's even an outside chance of motherboard or video card malfunction.
since so many things have been changed, unistalled, removed, i'd be suspicious of the operating system itself. it sure would be nice to determine where the problem is from the ground up, knowing that each step is clean. this hardware usually functions well even in the less than optimum machines if the software is installed and set up properly and the computer hardware funtions properly....
