ya know, the more i think about this, the more confused i'm getting...
let's take the emu card out of the equasion...if i'm using Tracktion 2 as my host/sequencer, am i able to use Scope as my asio-driven soundcard? how exactly do i route CW mod 3 synths, for example, into T2 if it won't work as a VSTi? am i able to run it as a input thru CW patching software?
if i'm able to do this (i don't know what i'm able to do, sorry), would i be able to use EmuX as a VSTi thru T2 NOT using the Emu audio card AT ALL? i know this is specific, but i believe at this point, the Emu card would be acting merely as a "dongle", the EmuX VST is a seperate app (i'm pretty sure)...if this is the case, that's the answer, plain and simple....
again...waddayall' think?

CW vs. R5 (new to your list)
Sure, you can use the CW card as you main ASIO audio interface just like any other interface. So, for example with the Modular, the way to work generally is to send its output to both your card's analog output (or outboard mixer) and to a Tracktion2 track for recording. You can also do it by sending the Modular's output only to T2, and route that signal thru ASIO again, if you absolutely want the signal to go thru T2 before going to a physical output (but then you'll get latency on the signal -- but it'll work fine.) There's a hundred different ways of doing this really. You can send Modular's outputs to one or ten T2 inputs if you want, process any number of them any way you want before/after it goes thru T2, etc. You can even create a feedback loop, which really isn't desirable (at least not the positive gain part, unless you want to make things explode), but possible =P.
Also, EmuX should not have any problems running as a VSTi. The only problems you might get with the Emu is the 2 ASIO drivers running at the same time, otherwise it's fine. I've had 4 soundcards in one machine once (2x Scope, 1x cheap SB clone, 1x hardware dvd decoder card (not a proper soundcard per se, but had a soundcard component)) and it was fine. EmuX will run fine as a VSTi, like all other VSTis. The only difference is that, instead of sending the VSTi's output directly to a physical out, it'll end up in the CW environment, which will let you do anything you want with it.
Seeing how you already seem like a modular fan (Doepfer, System 100, Nordmod and R5), you would absolutely love this whole routing nonsense. It's pretty much exactly like a modular, except the modules are your inputs, outputs and devices. So the ASIO inputs that go to the sequencer a module, the ASIO outputs are a module, same with ADAT, same with mixer, same with synths and effects, and you connect all this mess with wires. It's awesome! It's a bit dauting at first, but once you figure it out it's like nothing else.

since you're in the USA, if you want to discuss setting up a pc(once you have a plan, or to make a plan) and the details of operation, private message me or email me and we can have a chat.
look, if you want to buy my AW4416, just come out and ask me...but i'm not selling , no way man!On 2005-09-27 12:41, garyb wrote:weeelll, nothing but the real worldOn 2005-09-27 12:31, symbiote wrote:

. if you're using traction and scope, you can eliminate the yamaha for sure...

seriously, i had this thought awhile back: if i really wanna work, i wanna work...i don't want technical limits....right now, if my computer dies, all i have to do is bring out my Alesis MMT-8, hook it up to my AW4416, and i can work...in fact, i could hook up my old Mac nubus/protools/samplecell setup, and i'm in business (i was from my old job, i still need to find some lost songs)...if the AW4416 dies, i can pull out my mackie board, i'll be up in a few minutes...as i was speaking of in an earlier post, i'd like the option of mixing "out of the box", i'm not the first person to think of this, of bringing up stereo sub-mix pairs thru the mackie for mix down, regardless if it runs into CW or the yammy, it brings the "analog world" back in, i'd love the luxury of being able to a/b the results as a test...
i'm 42, i've just gotten to the point where i'm able to do such things, and it's not because i'm a successful person (quite the opposite in fact), it's because i've kept SOME stuff over the years (you don't want to know the stuff that's passed thru my hands, some real gems)
so far i'm extrememly excited about getting into Creamware, i'm in a weird place where i can probably get it, i just have to justify it and reshuffle the money, that's why i'm trying to figure out this stuff as best as i can....i must say, you guys have done a bang-up job of not only giving me good, honest, heart-felt info, you've also gotten me excited about the possibility that somewhat current technology can actually deliver on it's promise, unlike the recent mediocre experiences i've had....
you've created a convert/monster, THANKS GUYS!

hello again...
i'm pretty sure i'm going to go with the Scope Project with the Synth & Sampler Package...i've got a few q's...
1. if you guys mix in CW, how do you render your final stereo wav file? do you need the Mix and Master package to do this? please elaborate with examples, if you could, i'm especially interested in setups using daw
programs and vst's in the PC platform...
2. as mentioned, i plan on using my Yamaha AW4416 as the front end for recording, it's got good 8 pres (only 2 w/phantom), enough gain, i have the Waves 56k card for pro-level processing, and i'll have the CW stuff as well (i also have a n Aphex 2ch tube pre i use for lots of stuff, including synths w/ a direct box, it works great...maybe it don't spec out great, but it dirties up the signal nicely)...garyb spoke of using the adat i/o on the Scope with external lightpipe-capable preamps, what front-end equip are you guys using for recording with your systems, and how many of you use the Creamware cards as you main computer sound cards? if you don't use CW as your sound card, what do you use/how is it configured?
3. i'm trying to determine what i/o config to get with the Scope card, the classic will probably work the best, i can probably get more use from the spdif than aes digital, and for my purposes the balances analog won't make much difference...what do you guys generally use?
thanks again for all the info/opinions, the countdown begins...
