i've found that 15 + x is better, but.....

I've read those "6+6+6 is better than 15+x" threads also. But my 15+3 system works really well. I routinely get to 90-95% DSP usage and I can't say I get error messages much. Might happen over 95%, but below, totally smooth operation.

This is just for 96khz.

and minimax isn't supposed to work at 96k...

I didn't read the thread. But the 3 DSP card has only one S/TDM cable. Maybe that can cause bottleneck problems? I dunno.

Also 6 DSPs on a card == less need to send data over S/TDM.

$35.

everything must be twice as fast to be in time - not a pleasure in everyday life either...

Load will be twice as high on the DSPs (well, actually more around 2.17687074829931972789115646258x as high.)

yes i am also intersted in the answer as i want to get more dsp... As i have all the synth and effects available, i just need more dsp now. I was thinking about 2 other P2 or a scope...

Are you sure about your comment ?

thanks
Jo

I dunno. All I can say is I have a 15+3 that handles almost 100% of my audio (mixing, effects, STS samplers, ASIO, some synths), I routinely push it up to 95% DSP use for hours/days, and it's totally fine, I can load whatever device and I don't get any warning/error messages until there's really no more DSP capacity.

dunno about 96khz, but afaik the big boards are normally more stable as connections aren't as likely to be made across the stdm bus...

there must be at least 14 dsp power in order to be able to play well with a synth having at least 10 to 11 notes polyphony. only when i bought the 14dsp pro and put it with pulsar2 (20dsps) i realized the big difference in sound of synths, playing with many notes chordes. the sound is realy big and wide!!!
i need to be able to play with profit5, holding a 10 note chord in 48khz for example.

WOW !!

My ideas are confirmed. I've been telling all the guys here that it definately will make a difference to be using *at least* 2 or 3 Pulsar II's or preferably Scope boards compared to the 'mixed' systems we're currently running in a couple of studios here.

For example, we have 2 Lunas & 1 Pulsar II & a friend with a nearby studio has 2 Pulsars & 1 Pulsar II.

I think we need to loose the Luna cards & our friend needs to loose his Pulsars in favour of Pulsar II's with a view to buying Scope boards when financies permit.

This way we'll be running the same number of DSPS with only 2 boards instead of 3 & accross 2 STDM busses, which *must* improve performance in certain circumstances.

I'm converted.

Truely got the bug.

yeah, i ALWAYS try to point people towards the bigger cards, they're a much better deal, software/dollar-wise as well....

arhcaidos voice-count depends a LOT on the used synth.

arcadios is the correct spelling
yes, i have noticed that some synths do not need much dsp power, but some do.
even more on 48khz.
with the 6dsp pulsar2 alone i couldn't easilly rase polyphony without being looking all the time the dsp meter. and it was almost impossible to listen to a wide 10 note 9th from
big synths

hmmm, 10 voices ?
let's look at an example - a full blown Solaris
ingredients per voice:
20 oscillators
8 filters
4 LFOs
5 envelopes

cheers, Tom
